Max Cuba Heads
City Planners
Max M. Cuba, leader in At
lanta’s civic and Jewish com
munity activities, has been nam
ed chairman of the newly crea
ted Atlanta Planning Board.
Mr. Cuba, who heads the ac
counting firm of Max M. Cuba
and Co., was chairman of the
recently abolished joint city-
county planning commission. He
was unanimously elected to his
new office at the recent organi
zational meeting of the Planning
Board.
Mr. Cuba has hold many posi
tions of importance with the
Jewish community of Atlanta.
He is a past president of the
Ahavath Achirn Congregation
and has been active in numer
ous movements and organiza
tions. Currently, he is chairman
of the Bonds of the Israel Gov
ernment for Atlanta.
Golden Wedding
Anniversary for
Julius Glantz 9
Sunday, April C, will he a spe
cial “red letter” day for Mr. and
Mrs. Julius Glantz of Wilming
ton, Del. They’ll be married—
again.
This time the ceremon/ will
commemorate their fiftieth wed
ding anniversary—and several
New York couples who attended
the original wedding in Odessa
will be on hand.
Mr. and Mrs. Glantz are well
known in Atlanta where they
have been frequent visitors of
their daughter, Mrs. Mollis
Greenberg. Mrs. Greenberg and
her daughter Arlene will attend
the Sunday celebration, which
will be held at the Ben Franklin
Hotel in Philadelphia.
Mrs. Greenberg will accompa
ny her father down the aisle
while her mother will be escorted
by another daughter, Mrs. Julian
Ohn of Miami.
Besides Mrs. Greenberg and
Arlene, the Atlantans who will
attend the celebration includes
Mrs. Florence Raehelson, Mrs.
Charles Leb, and Mrs. Dave
Schaffer. Also attending will be
Dr. Ohn of Miami and Mrs. A.
London, ths formfer Dorothy
Handmacher of Atlanta, and Mr.
London, of Philadelphia.
Curved Bar for
3 Girl Scouts
Three 12-year-old Girl Scouts,
members of troops spohsored by
the Ahavath Achim Sisterhood,
were awarded the Curved Bar
at Court of Awards ceremonies
held March 19 at the A.A. Cen
ter.
This was the first time that
Center-sponsored Girl Scouts
have earned this award, which
is equivalent to the Eagle Scout
award for Boy Scouts.
Curved Bar winners were Mar
cia Krugman. daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Manuel Krugman; Mil
dred Morris, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jake Morris; and Elaine
Gilner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
A. Gilner.

Mrs. Edith Fordor of Birming
ham announces the engagement
of her daughter Anita to Phil
Abramson of Charlotte and Ashe
ville, N. C. The wedding will
take place in March.

Mrs. S. Bernstein of Savannah
announces the marriage of her
daughter, Debs, to Lewis Kopel
of New York City. Mr. and Mrs.
Kopel will make their home in
New York.
HIRSCH-RIES
The marriage of Miss Shirley
Elise Hirsch, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jake Walter Hirsch,
to Elkan Leopold Ries, Jr., son
of Mr. and Mrs. Elkan Leopold
Ries of Baltimore, Md., was
solemnized Sunday afternoon,
March .'10, at the Mayfair Club.
The bride’s sister, Miss Reva
Hirsch, was the maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Miss Beverly
Hirsch of Macon; Miss Miriam
Paris, Winston-Salem; Miss Ad-
ele Zeidman, Birmingham; Mrs.
Carey Ries, Baltimore; Miss
Frances Alper, Chattanooga; and
Miss Phyllis Kletzky. Frances
Alterman was flower girl.
Carey Ries of Baltimore was
the best man. Usher-groomsmen
were Daniel Daniel, Ries Daniel
and Arthur Barrett Ries, Jr., all
of Baltimore; John Hess, Salis-
burg, Md.; Daniel Greenbaum,
Garrison, Mn.; William Kahn,
Washington, D. C.; Jerald Cohen,
Alma, Ga.; and Alvin Hirsh, Ma
con.
Upon their return from their
wedding trip to Nassau, the cou
ple will reside in Columbia
where the bridegroom is sta
tioned at Fort Jackson.
Captain Abrams
Visits Atlanta
Captain Bernard Abrams, who
was wounded in Korea last Oc
tober and who has been recup
erating at Walter Reed Hospital,
paid a short visit recently to his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. R.
Abrams. Before returning to the
hospital, Captain Abrams plan
ned to spend a couple of weeks
in Miami.
Captain Abrams was wounded
when a mortar blew up three
feet from him, killing one of his
men and seriously wounding sev
en others. The officer’s father
made an unprecedented trip to
Osaka, Japan, to be at his bed
side at the time of his injury.
LANDAU-DVVOSKIN
“Miss Ileana Landau, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Landau
of New York, became the bride
of Paul Dwoskin, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Dwoskin, in the pres
ence of the immediate families
on March 9 at the Hotel New
Yorker in New York. Rabbi Ju
dah Kahn officiated.
Harold Landau, brother of the
bride, was best man.
Miss Jean Dwoskin, sister of
the bridegroom, was maid of
honor.
Out-of-town guests at the
wedding were: Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Dwoskin, Mr. and Mrs.
Nathan Dwoskin, Mr. and Mrs.
Oscar Dwoskin, Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Rosenberg, Mrs. Fred
Moss, Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Hei-
man, Mr. and Mrs. Irving Galan-
ty and Miss Jean and Diane
Dwoskin, all of Atlanta; Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Burke of Richmond,
Va., Sam Heiman of Miami and
Louis Heiman of Miami Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dwoskin
are at home to their friends at
43 Twenty-fifth Street, Atlanta.
GALIN-WOLSON
The marriage of Miss Leah
Galin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Mo? Galin of Savannah, and
Charles Arthur Wolson was
solemnized at 4:30 p.m. Sunday,
March 30, at the Synagogue
B’nai B’rith Jacob. Rabbi A. I.
Rosenberg and Cantor Albert E.
Singer officiated.
Miss Irene Wolson, sister of
the groom, served as maid of
honor. Bridesmaids were Miss
Irene Wolson and Miss Betty
Jean Wolson, also sisters of the
groom, and Miss Louise Smith.
Freddie Wolson was his broth
er’s best man and the grooms
men were Harry Kaplan, Murray
Galin and Bennie Ulman of
Hardeeville, S. C.
Immediately following the
ceremony a reception was held
at the Jewish Educational Alli
ance.
