Do You Know What's Happened?
Stevenson Has Turned Out To Be What
Eisenhower Was Supposed To Be—And Isn't
I. A Man of Common Sense and
Eisenhower has given us platitudes and gold-
brick promises, like cutting taxes without weaken
ing our defense—bringing our troops home from Ko
rea without ending the war—controlling inflation
without inflating controls.
Honesty
Stevenson has taken his stand on all con
troversial issues, for us to accept or reject. He
has made no false promises. He has treated
us as grown-ups—not as children for whom the
truth must be half sugar-coated and half-con
cealed.
2. A Man Who Would Bring Change Without
Slopping Progress.
Eisenhower was nominated primarily because
he wasn't Taft. He has surrendered to Taft and the
Old Guard Republicans.
3. A Man Who Will Insure the
Strong and Creative Bipartisan
Eisenhower has repudiated his own work by
endorsing for re-election all the bitter-end oppo
nents of our foreign policy, and by adopting most
of Senator Taft's criticisms as his own.
4. A Man of Firm Principle and
Eisenhower has stuttered every time a ques
tion of principle has arisen. He decided the Nixon
affair on the basis of soap-opera. He has shaken
the hands of Jenner and McCarthy—the hands which
stabbed his own best friend and benefactor, Gen
eral Marshall.
Stevenson's record as Governor of Illinois
shows that he knows how to bring about a
change without turning back the clock; that he
knows how to get rid of the rats without burn
ing down the barn.
Continuation of a
Foreign Policy.
Stevenson stands four-square behind the
bi-partisan policy which the Vandenberg Re
publicans helped to create and wish to sup
port.
Loyalty.
Stevenson has not courted the less admir
able elements in his party, many of whom now
support Eisenhower. Stevenson has not talked
one way in the South and another way in the
North. He has shown that he would rather lose
the election than win it by betraying friend
or principle.
AND THAT IS WHY STEVENSON IS GOING TO WIN
