Play Nov. 19-20
By ROSE JOEL
(Sp«ciol to Th« Southern Israelite)
A brightly lit barren s.age—
a few chairs placed at various
angles has meaning to the actors
and actresses of the Adult Dra
ma Workshop of the Atlanta
Jewish Community Center in re
hearsal, because it represents the
nestings of their first production,'
“George Washington Slept Here,’’
directed by Gertrude Bossak.
However, when this three-act
play will be given the eve
nings of Wednesday and Thurs
day, Nov. 19 and 20 at the Sam
uel Inman School, 774 Virginia
Avenue, the authentic settings
for this play now being built and
painted by members of the Work
shop under the skillful direction
of Hilfred Bossak, production
manager, will be on stage.
A state of dishevelment and
tumult appear in the opening
scenes when Newton Fuller, the
sentimental li'ttle American who
wants just a piece of land brings
his wife and daughter to the di
lapidated house he has just pur
chased. Despite many inconven
iences, a lovely home and sur
roundings are created by the
cast: Ralph Sacks, Jerry Gold
smith, Margie Silver, Joan Far-
ber, Sam Shonson, Ruth Berlin-
sky, Ida Levin, Barry Levin,
Gerald Harris, Gertrude Gulden,
Sadie Sacks, Arthur E. Sanders,
Vic Copeland, Melvin Dolob, June
Goldsmith, Lianne Raab, and Gil
bert Farber.

The distance ' from Atlanta
homes and Israel narrowed this
week when products from the
Jewish state went on sale at lo
cal delicatessens.
On the shelves appeared a
number of products imported
from Israel in a move to spur the
economy of that country. But the
process will not be complete un
less the idea finds favor among
ithd housewives who buy, so that
the cycle can be repeated and
more produce brought and
'bought . . .
From Israel’s vineyards have
come choice wines, from her
farms delicious pickles and can
dies from her factories. These
and other articles are on sale
for the use of American homes.
Arrangements were perfected
by Kalman Sunshine of H. Sun
shine & Son. in Atlanta on his
recent trip to Israel. By ar
ranging to secure these direct, he
has • eliminated the middle-man
charges in the important busi
ness. Thus, despite high import
duties, the Israeli products cost
no more than similar items, Mr.
Sunshine said. He added:
“We hope that these items fine
favor among the housewives for
only through them can th’is ship
ment be paid for, the funds sent
to Israel to aid the economy there
and more items brought to this
country.”
He revealed that only recently
he had conferred with several
scheduling an open meeting at
the General Assembly to consider
the functions and objectives of
the Jewish Family Agency and
also why a Jewish Family Agen
cy.
The General Assembly will dis
cuss the present developments in
the field of Community Rela
tions.
It will also receive reports
from the National Committee on
Community Organization and
from the Committee on National-
Local Relationships.
