JW Vets Seek
Exploit Data
The Jewish War Veterans of the
U.S.A. is in need of information
about Jewish military exploits for
the revision of a book, it has been
announced by Ben Kaufman, JWV
executive director and Congres
sional Medal of Honor winner.
According to the announcement,
since the last printing of the boolf
"Jews in American Wars,” by J.
George Fredman and Louis A.
Falk in November, 1946, the Jew
ish War Veterans national office
has been flooded with inquiries
asking if a revision were planned.
Mr. Kaufman, himself a World
War I veteran, said that since the
last printing of the book, hun
dreds of decorations and citations
have been awarded to Jewish men
and women for heroic deeds in
World War II, and many more
previously undisclosed facts hav
come to light concerning battle
situations in which Jews were in
volved.
“And since that time, too, the
Korean conflict has witnessed
countless additional acts which de
serve recording in the annals of
patriotic American Jewry,” he
added.

needs there today.
Mr. Beckelman’s talk was off-
the-record but he said he is con
vinced that “we can still save
lives” if only “you will continue
to help with cash.”
Mrs. Harold E. Marcus, Atlanta
leader and member of the Nation
al Women’s Division Executive
SCS * Board of U.J.A., reported on the
participation of women in welfare
fund campaigns.
Also taking part on the Sunday
afternoon program were Morris
Amato, Atlanta, leadeing the Star
Spangled Banner; invocation,
Rabbi Arnold Heisler, invocation;
Atlanta Jewish Community Coun
cil; Joseph Epstein, 1952 chair
man for the Knoxville campaign,
and Rabbi Joseph Cohen, bene
diction. ’
Gus B. Kaufman of Macon, U.
J. A. Georgia State co-chairman,
presided at the Sunday morning
work session which discussed cam
paign techniques. A film, “Adven
ture in Israel,” and starring George
and his daughter Jerilyn Jessel,
was shown. Ed Kahn, executive
director of the Atlanta Jewish
Welfare Fund made the summa
tion.
In his talk, Mr. Jessel said his
mission now is to make the young
folk proud of their Jewish heri
tage and background.
On the whole, he was the draw
ing card for the large crowd of
nearly 450 and he did not disap
point them, making them laugh
almost at will and carrying them
also at will into the serious chan
nels of the session. (
Mr. Nizer was the surprise on
the program, presenting a high-
level speech which moved some
to tears, most to new goals of ac
ceptance of U.J.A. responsibility
and many to a declaration that he
is one of the best speakers ever
heard in this area.
Taking part at the Saturday eve-
ing dinner were Birmingham’s
James L. Permutt, chairman; Rab
bi Emanuel Feldman, invocation;
Barney Medintz, president of the
Sam Robinson, Savannah, intro
duction of Mr. Nizer; I. M. Wein
stein, honorary president of the
Atlanta Jewish Welfare Fund, who
introduced Mr. Jessel, Frank Gar-
son, president of the Atlanta Jew
ish Welfare Fund, and Rabbi Ja
cob M. Rothschild, benediction.
