Blaustein to Address Atlanta
Community Meeting April 22
Jacob Blaustein will speak on
World Affairs and International
Problems at 8:15 p. m. Wednesday,
April 22, at the Progressive Club.
This will be a general community
meeting sponsored jointly by the
Atlanta Chapter, America Jewish
Committee, and Gate City Lodge,
B’nai B’rith. The public is cor
dially incited to come with guests
and friends to hear this world
famous person.
Mr. Blaustein is regarded as one
of the most distinguished Jews in
America, a communal leader, in
ternationally known for his
achievements in human relations
and world affairs.
Mr. Blaustein has served as
chairman of the American Jewish
Committee’s Executive Committee |
for five years prior to his eleva
tion as AJC’s head, succeeding
former Judge Joseph M. Proskau-
er. ,
His work as a member of the
five-man presidium of the Con
ference on Jewish Claims Against
Germany, has been hailed by both
American government officials and
Jewish leaders as the catalytic
agent in the negotiations which re
sulted in an agreement by West
Germany to pay $822,000,000 to
Israel. Of this total $107,000,000
will go to the Conference for dis-
tirubtion to Jewish victims of h'Ji-
zism outside of Israel.
He served as chairman of the
American delegation to the Lon
don conference of Jewish organi
zations, as consultant to the Am
erican Delegation to the United
Nations Organizations Conference
in San Francisco, and as head of
AJC’s delegation to the Paris
Peace Conference where he work-

MEMORIAL SERVICE
A community-wiilc memorial service for the six million Jewish
victims of Nazism and the heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto heroes
is being planned at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, April 12, at the Ahdvath
Achim Educational Center.
The program is being arranged by the Workmens Circle
Branches and the Jewish League for New Americans.
Rabbis and community dignitaries will take part.
Atlantans are asked to light six yarzeit candles in memory of
the six million victims on that day.

Youth Division To Rally
Sunday at Progressive Club

ed diligently to strengthen the hu
man rights clauses in the treaty
and the inclusion of guarantees to
aid victims of persecution. His
missions to Israel at the invitation
of Prime Minister Ben Gurion
achieved an important clarification
of the relations between Israeli
and Jews of other countries. This
was one of the high points of his
effective statesmanship.
Mr. Blaustein has dedicated his
knowledge as a petroleum author
ity and much of his valuable time
to the services of his country. Dur
ing World War II he was acting
chairman of the U. S. Petroleum
Administration and now serves on
the National Petroleum Council as
an advisor to the Oil and Gas Di
vision of the U. S. Department of
Interior. As a public member of
the National Advisory Board on
Mobilization Policy, he has met
with other of the nation’s top ex
perts in the White House to help
the United States in time of na
tional need.
Ben J. Massell is chairman of
Jewish Committee, and Herbert
Ringel is president of Gate City
Lodge, B’nai B’rith.
They announced that the meet
ing will honor past and present
officers of the Welfare Fund but
that there will absolutely be no
solicitation of funds.
Peggy Lichtenstein and Alvin
Siegel have been appointed Gen
eral Chairmen of the Youth Divi
sion of the Atlanta Jewish Wel
fare Fund, it has been announced
by A. L. Feldman and David L.-
Slann, Campaign General Chair
men.
Peggy won the highest award
for her club for outstanding ac
complishments in last year’s cam
paign of the Youth Division. She
brings to her present position a
combination of enthusiasm and en
ergy which inspires all who are
associated with her to exercise a
sense of responsibility meeting the
obligations of youth in this im
portant campaign. Peggy is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abner
Lichtenstein, both of whom are ac
tive in senior divisions of the Wei
fare Fund.
Alvin Siegel, her co-chairman,
is president of the Youth Council
at the Jewish Community Center
which is made up of all the Jew
ish youth clubs in the city. At the
recent annual meeting of the Com
munity Center he received a spe
cial award for outstanding leader
ship in community service. In as
suming his present responsibility
he again demonstrates his leader
ship by active participation in im
portant community affairs. Alvin
is the son of Mr. and Mrs, Harry
Siegel of Montview Drive. He is a
student at Emory University.
The rally of the Youth Division
to be held Sunday, April 12, at 4
p.m., at the Progressive Club, will
bring together all the workers as
well as the contributors. An in
teresting program has been pre
pared and Meyer Balser will be
the featured speaker.

Fund Campaign April 12
Shulman Closes
10 Years' Service
CHARLESTON—Nat Shulman is
completing his tenth year of pro
fessional service in the field of
Social Welfare with the Jewish
community here.
Mr. Shulman came to Charles
ton as director for the USO pro
gram of the Jewish Welfare Board.
He is now director of the Jewish -
Community Center and secretary
of the Welfare Fund.
Along with Charleston, he or
ganized Army and Navy Commit
tees in Conway, Myrtle Beach,
Georgetown, Walterboro, Beaufort.
In the spring of 1945, when Char
leston formed a Community Cen
ter, Mr. Shulman became the first
director. He has guided the Center

Milton Kronsberg, president of
the Charleston Jewish Welfare
Fund, has announced that Sunday
Schools of the community have
presented $327.87 to the current
campaign.
Dan Lodge, B’nai B’rith, was
cited by the National Council of
the Young Men’s Christian Asso
ciation in a letter directed to Na
tional Council of the Young Men’s
Christian Associations in a letter
directed to National President
Frank Goldman. Together with
members of the Auxiliary, Char
leston B’nai B’rith men relieved
the staff of the USO annually on
Christian Day and in addition this
past year served a turkey dinner
to the servicemen.

Under the leadership of the rab
bis and all the teachers in the
religious schools, and with the co
operation of the Atlanta Bureau
of Jewish Education, a special
campaign in the schools in behalf
of the Welfare Fund campaign will
get under way this Sunday, April
12.
Under the direction of Samuel
Rosenberg, executive director of
the Bureau, a special educational
booklet has been prepared to be
distributed among all students,
children will have their own spe
cial pledge cards and savings en
velopes will be distributed among
the children in the lower grades.
As a special feature there will be
posted in each class a large ther
mometer chart which will mdasure
the generosity of response and re
flect the heart of the campaign. In
addition to the individual posters
which will be displayed promi
nently in each class room, there
will be a giant thermometer pos
ter on which will be recorded the
achievements of the entire school.

Hears Feldman
Upon the invitation of Rabbi
Harry Epstein, who emphasized,
the Welfare Fund in his sermon,
A. L. Feldman, one of the Gen
eral Chairmen of the 1953 cam
paign, delivered a special address
at the services of the A. A. Con
gregation last Tuesday morning.
His address evoked an enthusias
tic response from his hearers and
aroused a great deal of interest.’
Mr. Feldman stressed the ur
gency of the 1953 Campaign in
that American Jewry must be rea
dy to aid those who escaped from
the Iron Curtain countries. He also
pointed out the importance of con-,
tinuing aid to Israel, stating that
we cannot permit the enemies of
Israel to be successful in their at
tempts to isolate her from the rest
of the world. He pointed out, too,
the importance of continuing our
support to the health and welfare
institution^ of our own country. -
