Community Can Register Wednesday
For Institute Of Jewish Studies
The Atlanta Institute of Jewish
Studies will hold its first session
at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21 v
at the Ahavath Achim Education
al Center, 250 Tenth Street, N. E.
The eight fall sessions will con
tinue through December 1^ 1953.
Fourteen courses will be offered
in the Institute; Bible, Judaism,
literature, history, social studies,
great books, education, Hebrew
and Yiddish. Registration may be
completed through the office of
the Atlanta Bureau of Jewish
Education, the synagogues or on
the night of the opening session at
the A. A. Educational Center.
The faculty will be Rabbi Joseph
Cohen, Rabbi Ralph DeKoven,
Rabbi Emanuel Feldman, Joseph
Fiszman, Rabbi Arnold Heisler,
Edward M. Kahn, Samuel H.
Rosenberg, Samuel Roth, Leon
Steinberg and Rabbi Jacob M. Ro
thschild.

The Atlanta Institute of Jewish
Studies is planned to offer every
member of the Jewish community
an opportunity for developing a
deeper understanding of Jewish
living and thinking, according to
the sponsors.
Jewish Women’s Institute
To Meet Tuesday, Oct. 20
At the September 29 meeting of
the Jewish Women’s Education
Committee of the Atlanta Bureau
of Jewish Education three projects
were discussed and acted upon.
The Sixth Jewish Women’s Insti
tute will meet on alternate Tues
day mornings from 11:00 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. at the Atlanta Jewish
Community Center. The first ses
sion will be held on October 20.
The Institute dates for 1953-54 are
October 20, Nov. 3, Nov. 17, Dec.
1, Dec. 15, Jan. 5, Jan. 19, Feb. 2,
Feb. 16, March 2 and March 16.

The subjects for discussion at
the Women’s Institute will be:
“Modern Jewish Interpretations of
Jews and Judaism” (5 sessions);
“Relationship Between Jewish Or
ganizations and the Atlanta Jew
ish Community” (3 sessions);
“Place of the Bible in the World”
(3 sessions).
Mrs. Joeph Cuba, Chairman of
the Jewish Women’s Education
Committee, emphasized that the
Institute is open to all Jewish
women in our community. “The
Institute,” Mrs. Cuba said, “has
made a very important contribu
tion towards bringing together the
women of all Jewish organizations
to discuss matters of interest to
Jewish life and to the Jewish com
munity. This year we hope the
Institute will become one of the
outstanding cultural expressions
of al Jewish women’s organiza
tions. Registration may be made
through the office of the Atlanta
Bureau of Jewish Education or on
the morning of the first session at
the Atlanta Jewish Community
Center."
The Jewish Women’s Education
Committee also recommended the
publication of a leaflet which
would include all opportunities for
study groups offered by the vari
ous Jewish women’s organizations.
As soon as this information is
compiled it will be made available
to the members of the community

Hillel Budget Up
NEW YORK (JTA) — The Na
tional Commission of the B’nai
B’rith Hillel Foundations has
adopted a projected program for
1954 calling for the expenditure
of $1,541,160 for its 208 units serv
ing Jewish university youth in the
United States, Canada and Israel,
it was announced here today by
Joseph L. Paradise, national Hillel
treasurer.

NEW YORK, (JTA) — Transfer
of the executive offices and New
York operations of the Jewish Te
legraphic Agency to new head
quarters at 660 First Avenue, New
York City, was announced this
week by Louis P. Rocker, presi
dent of the JTA.
The move, which gives JTA di
rect access to the radio facilities
of Press Wireless. Inc., which JTA
leaves for its worldwide radio net
work, will considerably improve
the efficiency of the JTA opera
tion, Mr^ Rocker declared. The
transfer wall also speed conver
sion of JTA circuits to Israel and
some South American points from
Morse Code to high-speed radio
printer.
