Temple Ladies’
Hanukah Party
On Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 6:30 p.m.
I the Temple Sisterhood will hold
its third annual Hanukahh party
[ at the Temple. Mrs. Julian Wolf,
who is in charge of the supper, is
j to be assisted by the same ca(-
i eress who prepared such a suc-
[ cessful luncheon for the November
meeting.
The program is to be a version
| of ‘ Juvenile Jury” with problems
| concerning the religious school and
its subjects. The moderator is to
I be Mrs. Ed Kahn, the panelists
Jeffrey Haas, Carol Weinman, Sue
Jockers, Phil Rosenberg, Bofinie
[Rich and Jay Schwartz.
The party will be a gala affair
[with favors, games and prizes for
|both adults and children.

A group of 25 lovely girls from
the Atlanta USO-JWB were hon
ored guests recently at the third
fall entertainment held by the
Daughters of Israel for service
men.
Mrs. Rae Bloom of New York
City is visiting her son and daugh
ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
Bloom and grandsons.
Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Henkle
and daughters of New York City
spent a few days here with rela
tives and friends.
Rotary members in Aiken, S. C.,
heard Rabbi Norman M. Goldburg
of Augusta. Among his recom
mendations, the Rabbi praised the
Rotary Club's program of foreign
exchange students as a means of
better understanding.

Rabbi Aaron (1st Lt.) Schmal-
berg is the new Chaplain at Camp
Gordon replacing Chaplain P. V/.
Zimmerman, who will soon de
part for overseas.

Stanley P. Steinberg, who is a
senior in architecture at Georgia
Tech was named to the Dean’s
List in the fall quarter of 1953.
At the last meeting of the Peren
nial Garden Club it was voted to
send plants and wreaths to patients
at the Veterans Hospitals during
the holiday season.
Members of the League of Wom
en Voters of Augusta conducted a
panel discussion at a meeting of
the Temple Sisterhood of the Wal
ton Way Temple recently. The
discussion, entitled, “Leaders for
World Peace — Mr. and Mrs.
U. S. A.”, was given in> connection
with the program on World Peace
and Rclatiohs. ‘ *
BERLIN-WEGODSKY
Mrs. Rosa Berlin of Charlotte,
N. C., and Augusta, announces the
engagement of her daughter, Re
becca, of Charlotte, to Mr. Nathan
Wegodsky of Charlotte. The wed
ding will take place in Augusta
on Sunday, December 13.
Miss Berlin is the daughter of
Mrs. Berlin and the late Mr. R.
Berlin of Charlotte. She is the
sister of Mrs. A. K. Steinberg and
Mrs. Irving Greenfield, both of
Augusta and Mrs. Myer Shapiro of
Wagener, S. C.
Mr. Wegodsky, son of Mr. and
Mrs. I. Wegodsky of Jersey City,
N. J„ is with the Associated Press
in Charlotte.
Schechter-Friedman
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Schechter
of Miami announce the engage
ment of their daughter, Miss Bar
bara Ann Schechter, to Alvin L.
Friedman, son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Samuel Friedman of Atlanta.
Miss Schechter attended the
University of Florida and is at
tending the University of Miami,
where she is majoring in elemen
tary education. She is a member
of Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority, the
Pan- Hellenic Council, Associa
tion for Childhood Education in
ternational, Future Teachers of
America and is an honor student.
Mr. Friedman attended the
University of Florida, where he
majored in architecture. He was
pledged to Pi Lambda Phi Frater
nity and was a member of Alpha
Phi Omega. He enlisted in the U.S.
Navy in 1952 and is stationed at
San Diego, Calif,

Servicemen’s
Parties
Hanukah is furnishing the theme
for a number of events through
out the south for men in uniform,
according to General Eugene Ober-
dorfer, Third Army Area Chair
man of the JWB-USO.
A pre-Hanukah dance was held
in Savannah at the Jewish Educa
tional Alliance, under sponsorship
of the Savannah Jewish Council
and Savannah JWB-ASC.
The Jewish War Veterans and
Auxiliary will join in sponsoring
a Hanukah dance at 8:15 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Temple.
Telephone calls home will be of
fered as prizes.
A matinee dance will also be
sponsored by the men and women
of Post 112 at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec.
6.
A Latke party is scheduled at
7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at
Temple Beth-El Center in Annis
ton, Ala. Birmingham’s Jewish
War Veterans and Auxiliary are
the sponsors.
As usual, Augusta will be host
at the USO-JWB Canteen from 2
p.m. to 6 p.m. each Sunday, under
chairmanship of Sidney Rosen.
Junior hostesses from Atlanta
and Columbus Will, join in the en
tertainment December 12-13 for
soldiers at Fort Benning, sponsor
ed in cooperation with the Com
manding General and special serv
ices at Fort Benning. The pro
gram is planned on Saturday at
Shearith Israel Synagogue.
HARRIS-ANDREWS
Mrs. Cecila Harris of Decatur
announces the engagement of her
daughter, Miss Sylvia Frances
Harris to Sanford H. Andrews, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Andrews of
Atlanta.
Miss Harris, formerly of Brook
lyn, was graduated from Jackson
Memorial Hospital School of
Nursing in Miami last June. She
is now employed at the Jewish
Home for the Aged.
Mr. Andrews attended Com
mercial High, Atlanta Division of
the University of Georgia and
Creighton Business College. He is
now employed at the Fred Astaire
Studios.
