[Zionist Council
Lists Set-Up
And Its Goal
Adoption of a program of or
ganization and action took place
Sunday at a meeting of the At
lanta Zionist Council.
The Council, it was decided, will
be componsed of a minimum rep
resentation of four delegates from
each of the constituent organiza
tions — Hadassah, Farband, Pi
oneer Women, Mizrachi and the
Z.O.A. The Council will meet at
least four times a year, with the
executive, comprosed of elected
officers committee heads and four
members at large, empowered to
act in the interim.
Sol Benamy, chairman, and
Mrs. George Chait, vice chairman,
reported on the recent American
! Zionist Assembly in New York.
Mr. Benamy said that Atlanta’s
Council was praised as a model
j by national delegates interested in
' unifying all Zionists, regardless of
[ political affiliations.
Mrs. Chait reported on Dr. Na
hum Goldman’s expression that
“A Jewish state has never been
the overriding aim of Zionism. The
fundamental aim has been to se
cure the survival of the Jewish
people. . . The state was intended
as an instrument that would en
able the Jewish people to survive
but never the goal in itself.”
Dr. Goldman, Mrs. Chait con
tinued, said furthering the evolu
tion of creative Jewish life
throughout the world is the major
role of Zionism ,and to achieve
this second aim Zionism must as
sure the unity of the Jewish peo
ple, educate its youth, and relate
Jewish life elsewhere to the reali
ties of life in Israel. Dr. Goldman
is chairman of the executive of the
Jewish Agency for Palestine.
