To Hold Annual Meeting January 5
Annual meeting of the Atlanta
JWB-Armed Services Committee
will be held Tuesday evening,
January 5, 1954, according to Her
bert R. Elsas, chairman.
Guest speaker will be Benjamin
Sternberg, of Long Beach New
York, national director of field
operations of the Armed Services
Division of the Jewish Welfare
Board.
Mr. Sternberg was formerly a
USO-JWB Regional Supervisor
and Armed Services Club Director.
A veteran in USO-JWB work, Mr.
Sternberg began his service as
JWB Armed Services area work
er in Florida. In 1945, he became

Mrs. Albert A. Cohen of Belgian
Congo and Mrs. Sam Franco of
Atlanta saw each other recently—
for the first time in a quarter
century.
Mrs. Cohen, her husband and
children Sarah and Joseph of
Stanleyville, Belgian Congo, Afri
ca, are visitors of Mr. and Mrs.
Sam Franco.
The Cohens will proceed from
here to New York and then to
Europe.

Rabbi and Mrs. Tobias Geffen
and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Geffen of
Atlanta, will entertain at an Open
House on Sunday, December 27, at
the rabi’s home on Washington St.
from 3 to 6 p. m. in honor of Rabbi
Joel S. Geffen, his wife and
daughter, Rela, of New York.

Cemetery Vandalism
NEW YORK, (JTA)—Four hun
dred headstones were overturned
in four different cemeteries in
Brooklyn last week, cemetery of
ficials revealed. Two of the ceme
teries were Jewish, one was Prot
estant and one was non-sectarian.
Total damage was estimated at
$25,000.

Mrs. Avery Burt Cheretor of
Atlanta announces the engagement
of her daughter, Miss Sheila Joyce
Chereton to Harvey Rubin, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rubin of New
port News, Virginia.
Milss Chereton is attending the
University of Alabama and is a
member of the Alpha Epsilon Phi
Sorority.
Mr. Rubin is a graduate of Avon
Old Farms Preparatory School in
Avon Connecticut. He is now at
tending the University of Alabama
and is a member of the Sigma Al
pha Mu Fraternity.

General Eugene Oberdorfer,
Third Army Area Chairman of the
National JWB - Armed Services
Division, has announced that Mr.
Sternberg will also meet with
JWB-Armed Services Committees
in Jacksonville and Columbus.
