B'NAI B'RITH YOUTH WINS PRAISE IN AUGUSTA
Editors of the Augusta Herald were captivated by the recent
Snembers of B’nai B’rith’s youth organizations who met in their
Community recently for a convention. The paper printed the fol
lowing editorial under a caption “Jewish Croup Sets Example for
Other Americans to Follow:"
One of tin• most energetic groups of young Americans to ever
convene in Augusta is gathered here in annual convention.
This group is made up of some 300 Aleph Zadik Aleph Boys
and B’nai B'rith girls from the Southeastern states. These young
Jewish groups have engaged in a vigorous program ranging from
business sessions, oratorical contests, athletic events, queen cpn-
tesfs to religious activities.
We had the pleasure of hearing the oratorical contest and we
fiare never heard a more earnest group of young men deliver such
toll-prepa red speeches.
' These young men are on t he waif toward becoming the
Disraeli’s, Balfours, the Bernard Baruchs, the Ben Gurions and the
Judah T. Benjamins of tomorrow.
They will make their names known in the communities from
whence they hail and will he assets wherever they may go.
In hearing these young sjtrakers tee gained a deeper insight
into the part tradition plays in the progress of civilization.
In these modern days the tendency to scoff at tradition has
become the smart attitude among many i/outh groups.
^ Not so ivith these earnest young Jews.
First of all they are American citizens, hut they are proud of
their ancestry mid of the traditions that stretch behind them
pirotigh the thousands of years.
P They have even/ right to he proud. The part the race has
'played in the progress of man irill stand out from the jmges of
history as long as the human race shall exist..
If they have been clannish as some critics have charged it
Is because they are a family-loving people, and because of the
persecutions they have been forced to undergo.
No just criticism can he aimed at a man because he cherishes
the traditions of the land from a lienee his fathers sprung.
Tradition is the vein which inns down through the centuries
and brings up the water of life of civilization from the well-springs
of culture that have been built up by the exjrericncc of man
through the centuries.
It is from this experieiwc that we of the present draw the in-
Sight from the /Hist that enables us to climb higher on the scien
tific and cultural ladder.
P In bringing this to the fore as they did Monday night, the
young Jews of America arc /minting the way for other Americans
to follow in promoting the fatherhood of God and the brother
hood of man. tJ*H
