Appoints Leaders
Prominent leaders In this area

the work of the Southern Section,
National Jewish Welfare Board
(JWB), according to a report re-

ern Section-JWB. ,
David Slann, of Atlanta, will
represent the Southern Section on
the National Council of JWB. This
Is the body which governs the na
tional JWB organization.
' Meyef Balser, president of the
Atlanta JCC; Max Estroff, presi
dent of the Augusta JCC; Abe
Dumas, president of the Charles
ton JCC; Raymond Rosen, presi
dent of the Savannah JEA; and
Louis Marks, president of the
Chattanooga JCC, have been ap
pointed to the Board of Governors
of the Southern Section-JWB.
Meyer N. Kronenberg of Birm
ingham has been appointed to the
National JWB Board of Directors,
as a representative of the South
ern Section. George Berke of
Chattanooga will serve a second
term as treasurer of the Southern
Section.

WILKES BARRE, Pa.—Mrs. Ida
Goncher of Atlanta is visiting her
children, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel J.
Rosenthal, here for the Bar Mitz-
vah of her grandson, Stanley
Abram Rosenthal on January 9.
Also attending the Bar Mitzvah
will he Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Rich,
Marilyn and Elliott Rich and Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Gerson of Atlan
ta. Mrs. Rosenthal’s sister, Mrs.
Joshua Stampfer and her three
sons from Portland, Oregon, will
also be present, making an almost
complete family reunion for Mrs.
Goncher, her three daughters and
families.

The paper on “Counseling the
Sick” that Rabbi Gerber delivered
in Estes Park, Colorado, in June,
has been printed in the 1953 Year
book of the Central Conference of
American Rabbis.
Faye Wynne has been officially
accepted as a member of the B’nai
B’rlth Girls. She received the
highest score, 95-1/2, of all the
girls entering. Her picture was in
the Dothan Eagle on the celebra
tion of her 16th birthday.
Mr. M. G. Rosenberg, father of
Mmes. Herman and Sam Blum-
berg, is conducting a tour to Israel.
The group is expected to reach
Israel in time to celebrate the
young state’s 6th anniversary of
Independence on May 7th.
Mrs. George Javer was wel
comed into the Household of Israel
in a service at the Temple on De
cember 18th. We wish her much
happiness and may she be a bless
ing to her newly adopted faith.
We extend a cordial welcome to
Mr .and Mrs. Gordon Levine and
their children to Dothan. We hope
they will live happy, rich, and
full lives in our community.
Edwin Blitz served as cantor
two Fridays ago. He did a mighty
fine job.

been elected president of Congre
gation Emanu-El in Dothan. Cho
sen to serve with him are Nathan
Kraselsky and Barney Blumen-
feld, vice presidents; Lee Shugar-
man, treasurer; Henry Crine, sec
retary; Sam Behrman, Max Nem-
berg, Mrs. Abbie Minsky and Har
ris C. Cohen, board members.
The meeting was preceeded by
• dinner given by Ike Rinson. Na
than Kraselsky was in charge of
preparations assisted by Mrs. Louis
Cohen, Mrs. Sam Berk, Max Nem-
berg, Mrs. Bernard Schwartz, Mrs.
Barney Blumenfeld, Mrs. Aaron
Kraselsky and others.
Mrs. Max Gerber, mother of the
rabbi, is recuperating from a re
cent operation.

First Bar Mitzvah

BRUNSWICK—Temple' Beth
Tfefilloh will celebrate its first Bar
Mitzvah the evening of Friday,
January 8, when Rabbi Joseph D.
Spear will confirm Alan Flalkow,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel
Flalkow.
After the services, the parents
will entertain In honor of their
son with a party at Beth Tefilloh
Recreation Center for the congre
gation and visitors.

Fete Fathers Jan. 10
The brothers and pledges of Al
pha Epsilon Pi fraternity at Emo
ry University will have their fath
er and son banquet on January 10
at 7 p. m. at the Mayfair Club. Ap
proximately twenty-five to thirty
fathers from all over the country
will attend the big event.
Chairman of the banquet is Jack
Horowitz. Marshall Cohen is pres
ident. Both are Atlanta boys.
Arnold Hoffman and Louis Siegel
are advisors of the chapter. In ad
dition to a program for fathers,
the best pledge award for 1953
will be presented. In the afternoon
the fathers will watch the annual
pledge-brother football game.
