KARESH-JAFFE
CHARLESTON — Miss Sandra
Karesh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Alex Karesh of Charleston, S. C.,
became the bride of Herbert Ben-
nette Jaffe, son of Mr. and Mrs.
William Jaffe of Dayton, Ohio, re
cently at the Brith Sholotn Syna
gogue. The ceremony was per
formed by Rabbi Joseph Roth-
stein and Rabbi Joseph Hahane-
man of Israel who was in Charles
ton only for the ceremony.
Mrs. Karesh was matron of hon
or for her daughter. Miss Majoide
Marx of Lake Charles, La., was
maid of honor..
Bridesmaids were Miss Fran
Blum, Miss Rachel Rephin, Miss
Charlotte Jaffe, Miss Barbara
Gail Jaffe, sisters of the bride
groom, and Mrs. Louis Tanen-
baum and Mrs. Stanley Karesh,
sister and sister-in-law of the
bride.
Miss Fern Karesh and Miss
Gail Karesh, nieces of the bride,
were the flower girls.
Mark Charles Tanenbaum,
nephew of the bride, was ring-
bearer.
Lloyd Jaffe of Dayton was his
brother’s best man. Ushers were
Louis Tanenbaum, Dr. Stanley
Karesh, Ben Friedman and Al
Liebling of Amarillo.
Following the ceremony a seated
j dinner was held in the Colonial
Room of the Francis Marion Ho
tel. Later the bride and groom
| left for a wedding trip to Miami
Beach and Nassau.
The bridegroom is an attorney
serving in the Judge Advocate’s
office in the U. S. Air Force in
Amarillo.

Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Alper of
Chattanooga announce the engage
ment of their daughter, Frances
Alper, to Melvin S. Sturm, son of
Mrs. Louis Sturm of Jellico, Tenn.,
and the late Mr. Sturm.
Miss Alper attended the Uni
versity of Chattanooga and re
ceived her bachelor of arts degree
from the University of Athens.
While at the University of Georgia
she was business manager of the
Georgia Cracker, campus maga
zine, and vice president of Sigma
Delta Tau, social sorority. Miss Al
per is at present a probation of
ficer for the Juvenile Court in
Chattanooga and is secretary of
the Social Workers’ Club.
Mr. Sturm received his bachelor
of science degree from the Univer
sity of Tennessee where he served
as president of Zeta Beta Tau, so
cial fraternity, and was a member
of Tau Beta Pi, honorary engineer
ing fraternity. During World War
II, he served as Lt. (j.g.) USNR,
assigned to the Staff Commander
Third Fleet, Adm. William F. Hal
sey. He is currently in business
in Jellico and Oak Ridge. In Jelli
co he is a member of the City
Council, an immediate past presi
dent of the Kiwanis Club, and is
mayor-elect of the city.
The wedding will be an event
of March 8.
FLAX-STRAUSS
Mrs. Bertha Flax of Atlanta an

Flax, to Walter Strauss, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Strauss of At

Miss Flax received her Bachelor
of Arts Degree in elementary ed
ucation from Oglethorpe Universi
ty. While attending Oglethorpe
she was chairman of the public
relations copimittee and senior
representative to the Hena Com
mittee. She has served as chair
man of the Atlanta Young Judea
Leader Council and as the South
ern chairman of the National
Young Judea Leaders Council. She
is now employed by the Atlanta
Public School System.
Mr. Strauss served three years
with the Army in the Engineers-
Intelligence Department. After
wards he attended the Atlanta
Division, University of Georgia,
where he was a member of the
Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity. He

Miss Schwartz was graduated
