The ceremonies began on Friday
night, January 8, when the con
firmant conducted, in most capa
ble fashion, the complete Sabbath
Eve service. He chanted the pray
ers in Hebrew and led responsive
readings in English. During the
procession of the scroll, Penson
was assisted by Stanley Harris
and Milton Silver. The confirm-
ant’s brother, Lawrence, read the
Bible portion of the week. For his
sermon Rabbi Nathan Kohen
spoke on "Youth and Age." Pen-
son then took an oath of allegiance
to the Jewish faith.
The large audience adjourned
to the annex of the Synagogue for
refreshments.
The ceremonies continued on
Saturday when Penson conducted
the morning service with fluency
and confidence. He also delivered
a speech 'to the congregation.
Charles Harris, on behalf of the
synagogue, presented a Bible to
by the Bar Mitzvahant’s aunt,
Mrs. Joe Gewirtz of Miami Beach,
was on display.
Rabbi Kohen was toastmaster
for the program of the evening.
He first read a number of tele
grams, including a cablegram
from London, England. Rabbi
Kohen next called upon the Bar
Mitzvah’s lather, H. R. Kaminsky,
who thanked his many friends for
sharing this joyful occasion with
him. Mrs. Kaminsky said a few
words in similar vein.
The highlight of the program
was the rendition by Penson again
of his Bar Mitzvah speech.
Rabbi Kohen then recognized
various members of the family in
attendance, including the cele
brant’s grandmother, brothers,
aunts, uncles and a number of
cousins.
Out-of-town relatives present
included Mrs. William Cohen and
Joe Cohen, Ashburn; Mrs. Fanny
Cohen, Miss Celia Kaminsky, Mr.
and Mrs. Yale Cohen, Mr. and
Mrs. Winkleman, New York; Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Gewirtz, Miami
Beach; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cohen,

Concluding the week-end pro
gram, Mr. and Mrs. Kaminsky
were hosts at a reception in the
synagogue annex, honoring their
son. A supper was served buffet
style to approximately 300 guests.

of Columbia, S. C.

AUGUSTA — Jacob Weinstein,
69, died January 11. Funeral serv
ices were held January 12 at El
liotts Chapel. Interment was in
Magnolia Cemetery. Rabbi Simon
Zipper officiated.
Mr. Weinstein, a native of Po
land, had resided in this county
for almost 50 years. He was the
husband of the late Mrs.
Bosniak Weinstein.
