many to useful and productive
lives. It utilizes the most advanced
methods in medication, physio
therapy and hydro- therapy, in
combination with the thermal wa
ters of Hot Springs. Leo N. Levi
Hospital does not receive grants
from grovernment sources, either
local or national. It depends sole
ly upon philanthropic funds.
Levi Hospital is constantly in
creasing its services to the suffer
ers of the painful arthritic ail
ments, taking full advantage of
the rapid research gains made in
this field, and utilizing new drugs
and specialized treatments for
which the Hospital has gained re
known. It has already made signif
icant gains in perfecting new tech
niques in the treatment of arthritic
diseases.
The Hospital coordinates its
medical and research programs
with the University of Arkansas
Medical School. It is also complet
ing additionl facilities which will
help to establish it as a complete
medical center for study in physi
cal medicine, occupational therapy
and rehabilitation for suffers of
arthritis and rheumatism.
THE JEWISH CONSUMPTIVES
RELIEF SOCIETY will celebrate
50 years of service during 1954.
It established its Denver Sanator
ium and Hospital in 1904 for the
free care and treatment of pa
tients in all stages of tuberculosis.
It has now expanded its service to
include, as well, non-tuberculosis
chest diseases, such as malignant
and benign tumors of the chest,
hronchial htasma and bronchiec-
tasis, and is considering further
extensions of the medical program.

The JCRS has also expanded its
services to embrace a complete
rehabilitation program, and pro
vides vocational retraining for pa
tients who cannot return to their
former occupations. Patients are
admitted without regard to creed
or residence.
In addition to medical treat
ment in its Hospital, the J.C.R.S.
maintains an out-patient depart
ment; a social service program to
assist patients in adjustment while
under care and upon discharge
from the hospital; an occupational
therapy and rehabilitation depart
ment, including sheltered work
shops and vicational traning; and
an educational program, including
both general and business courses.
THE CITY OF HOPE is a free,
national medical center, under
Jewish auspices, for the treatment
of sepcific major diseases. In oper
ation are the Hospital for Chest
Diseases, which includes tuber
culosis, the Hospital for Turner
Disease, the Cardiovascular Hos
pital, with emphasis on heart sur
gery, and the Leukemia and Hodg
kin’s Disease Clinic. A 32-bed
Pediatric Leukemia Wing will be
completed early in 1954. A re
search Institute is in operation in
which both basic and clinical re
starch are carried on in those
diseases treated at the Medical
Center.
The quality or medical and sur
gical care given at the City of
Hope has earned for it the en
dorsement of the American Medi
cal Association and the American
College of Surgeons. The Medi
cal Center provides private or
semi-private rooms to all of its ♦
patients, and in addition, main- j J
tains out-patient clinics and an- J
ciliary services which include so- ♦
cial service, occupational therapy, £
education, rehabilitation, and re- J
creation. | *
The services at the City of Hope *
are offered on a non-sectarian
basis, both to patients and to those
who seek to further their post
graduate studies. All of the ser
vices at the City of Hope are
givin on a completely free basis to
persons in low-and moderate-in
come brackets, to whome the cost
of a protracted illness would be
beyond their means. Its program is
financed entirely through volun
tary contributions, such as those
you make to your Atlanta Jewish
Welfare Fund.
Space does not permit detailed
information on the other agencies
listed in the first pargraph. These
will probably be covered at a
later date.
