Workmen Circle
Asks Remembrance of
Ghetto Anniversary
A public call to Jewry to re
member the anniversary of the
Warsaw-Ghetto Uprising on April
19 has been issued by the Work
mens Circle of Atlanta.
Officials pointed out that coin
cidence of this anniversary with
the Passover season adds renewed
significance to the Pesach obser
vance.
No Jew should ever forget the
martyrs of the Warsaw Ghetto
who revolted in the concentration
camps and died a martyr’s death
in the forests of Poland and Li
thuania., Arbeiter Ring continued.
Officials also called upon Jewry to
light six candles—for the six mil
lion dead from Nazi hands—that
night.

Workmen’s Circle
To Celebrate 45
Years in Atlanta
On May 2 the Workmen’s Cir
cle in Atlanta will celebrate the
forty-fifth anniversary of the
founding of Branch 207 and the
twenty-fifth anniversary of its
sister branch 207-B (the Mikhale-
vitch Branch).
The Workmen’s Circle has mark
ed a colorful history in Atlanta.
It was the first organization which
gave fraternal insurance benfits to
its members and was founded by
immigrants from the “old country”
who needed such benefits desper
ately. It has had to its record a
Yiddish Center and a Yiddish li
brary, a chorus and a school—the
I.L. Peretz School which exists
to this day.
In the course of its existence in
Atlanta, the Workmen’s Circle has
taken a lively interest in the life of
the community, has participated
in all worthwhile causes and lent
a helping hand whenever there
was a need for it. The Workmen’s
Circle has brought to Atlanta
many prominent figures in Jew
ish social life, culture and Yid
dish literature. Especially memor
able is the work of the members
of the Worwmen’s Circle in At-
i lanta during and immediately
} after the war. when they whole-
j heartedly aided the disaster-
I stricken Jewish communities in
Europe, aided refugees, and adopt-
I ed war orphans whom' the W.C.
I continues to support entirely.
1 To celebrate its forty fifth
i anniversary the Workmen’s Circle
j has arranged a banquet at the
Mayfair Club on Sunday, May 2.
