To Hear Talk
By Dr. Clement
Dr. Rufus E. Clement, Presi
dent of Atlanta University, and
the only Negro member of the At
lanta Board of Education, will b<?
the featured speaker at the re
gular monthly meeting of At
lanta Lodge of B’nai Birth on
Monday, April 26, Dr. Ted C.
Levitas, chapter president, an
nounced.
The meeting will be held at the
Mayfair Club, beginning at 8:15
p.m. and the public is invited.
Dr. Clement’s subject will be “The
Changing Pattern”.
Dr. Clement, who has been an
educator since his graduation from
Livingstone College in 1919, has
a B.A. from that college, a B.D.
from Garrett Biblical Institute,
and an M.A. and Ph.D. from
N orthwestern U niversity. H e
taught history at Livingstone, from
1922 to 1931, was a rural pastor
in North Carolina from 1924 to
1931, was Dean of the Municipal
College for Negroes in Louisville,
Kentuckey, from 1931 to 1937.
He became president of Atlanta
University, the post he now holds,
in 1937.
Dr Clement is on the board of
directors of many organizations, in
cluding the National Public Hous
ing Conference, Atlanta Urban
League, American Education Fel
lowship, Southern Regional Coun
cil (also on Executive Committee)
and Board of Directors Vice Presi
dent of the Citizens Conference on
International Economic Union. He
is listed in “Who’s Who in Ameri
ca”, “Who’s Who in Education”,
“Leaders in Education” and other
similar publications. He has been
a contributor to The Journal of
Negro Education, Saturday Review
of Literature Sociology, Phylon,
and Southern Frontier. Dr. Cle
ment was elected to the Atlanta
Board of Education in 1953.

Will See Film
A technicolor film, “The Great
Road”, will be shown members of
Bussiness & Professional Women’s
Group of Hadassah meeting at
8:15 p.m. Thursday, April 29, at the
Mayfair Club. This is a Documen
tary of Hadassah’s Medical work
in Israel. Mrs. Heinz Bauer, Chair
man for Hadassah Medical Organi
zation, will give a short talk on
the history and importance of the
HMO and its contribution to the
health of Israel.
Dr. Rose Lahman will portray
Dr. I. Q. and will present a Quiz
Program over Station W. H. M. O.
Prizes will be awarded to suc
cessful contestants.
Election of officers will be held.
Refreshments will be served. Any
one desiring transportation is re
quested to call Miss Mary Zakheim
