Norman J. Arnold, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Ben Arnold ot'Columbia,
has recently been prompted to the
rank of lieutenant, junior grade,
in the Navy. He is a gunnery-
officer aboard the U. S. S. Ari-
quippa in the mid-Pacific area.
Lieutenant Arnold served six
months in the Korean theater and
is entitled to wear the United
Nations, Korean service and China
service ribbons.

Anne (Mrs. Ted) Solomon, who
recently returned to Columbia
from the national Hadassah meet
ing in New York recently reported
on the Israeli fashion show which
was one of the highlights of the
convention. Her report appeared
in The State newspaper.

Allen Gould, a Columbia busi
nessman scored a hole-in-one on
the 15th hole of the Fort Jackson
golf course this week. It was his
first ace in 20 years of golfing.
Gould’s score of 76 for the round
was the lowest he has shot since
he began playing golf.

Dr. Marcus Wald, the new
spiritual leader of. the House of
Peace congregation, adressed the
Tree of Life’s Men’s Club at that
group’s first monthly meeting of
the new season last week.

Frank Harris, who annually di
rects the Hadassah plays in Co
lumbia has won one of the lead
ing roles in the Town Theater’s
season-opening play, “My Three
Angels.”
Mr. Harris is a Town Theater
regular and has appeared on the
Philco Playhouse television show.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Krugman
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Irene, to Harold Allen
Rudnick, son of Mrs. Morris Rud-
nick and the late Morris Rudnick
of Aiken.
The bride-elect was graduated
from the University of South
Carolina with an A. B. and L.L.B.
degree. For the past two years,
she has been practicing law in
Columbia.
The bridegroom-elect was
graduated from U. S. C. with an
A. B. .degree in economics. He is
now in business in Aiken.

David H. White, Houston, has
been named chairman- of the
ninth annual convention of the
Southern Section, Jewish Welfare
Board, slated to be held in his
home town during the early part
of November.
Mr. White is Vice-fresident of
the Southern Section-JWB, Past
President of the Houston Jewish
Community Center, and Editor &
Publisher of the Jewish Herald
Voice. In accepting the appoint
ment of convention chairman, he
said that this was the first Annual
Meeting of JWB vMiich has been
held in the Southwest, and that
the Houston Convention Commit
tee was making every effort to
plan a thoroughly enjoyable and
worthwhile program which will
be of great value to all the Jew
ish communities throughout the
South.
