Dear Boys and Girls:
With the holiest of all objects,
the two tablets containing the
Ten Commandments written and
handed to Moses by God himself
entrusted to them, the children of
Israel thought only of one thing:
a proper Ark and Tabernacle
wherein to place this most sacred
possession entrusted to them by
the Creator of the Universe.
And so, throughout the camp
of the twelve tribes, hammers
clanged, spindles whirred. The Is
raelites began to build a Taber
nacle, a great Tent in which to
keep the tablets of God’s Law. To
this Tabernacle they would bring
their offerings. There they would
come to pray and give thanks to
the Everliving One.
“Bezalel, the artist, will be In
charge of the work,” Moses had
said. “Bezalel is wise and skilled.
He will teach you to carve wood,
to work in gold and silver and
brass, to set precious stones, to
engrave and embroider. Whoever
wishes may help him.
All the people wanted to help.
They hurried to Moses, bringing
powers, and privileges as prayed
for in Said petition, for a period
of 35 years with the privilege of
renewal at the expiration of that
time.
This 18th day of April, 1955.

gold and jewels, brass, wood,
spices, pils, linen, goat’s hair,
ram skins, anything they had that
could be used for the work. Mo
ses had to send word throughout
the camp "Let no more offerings
be brought. We have all that we
need and more.”
So the work went on. Men cut
down the trees that grew in the
mountains and planed them into
poles to make the frame for the
great Tent. Tanners scraped skins
into strong coverings for the roof
and sides. Brass workers bent
over hot fires, forming sockets
and hooks and rungs. Women
wove curtains of linen and goat’s
hair. Dyers dipped the skins and
curtains into kettles of boiling
dye, red, blue and purple.
Bezalel worked skillfully with
gold and jewels. He made a beau
tiful Ark for the tablets of the
Law. It was covered inside and
outside with gold. He also made
a golden altar and a golden lamp
with seven branches. The light
in the lamp would burn day and
night. He made a breast plate for
Aaron, set with twelve precious
stones, one for each of the tribes.
For Aaron and his sons were to
be the Kohanim, the priests.
The Tabernacle was finished at
last, and Moses blessed the work
ers. ,
Joyfully, the people gathered in
the outer court. Then they watch
ed in awe how Moses put the
tablets of God’s Law, the two
stone tablets he had brought down
from Mount Sinai, into the Ark.
And Aaron and his sons carried
the Ark into the Tabernacle. It
was at this point in our history
that our forefathers began a real
community worship centered
around the Law of God — and
this Law and worship have been
with us through all ages until
this very day. The Torah, con
taining the Five Books of Moses,
has replaced the holy tablets, and
the Synagogue the Tabernacle.

TEL AVIV, (JTA) — The 28th
annual convention of the B’nai
B’rith of Israel was held recently
at ZOA house here. The organiz
ation, which had 23 lodges when
Israel was established now boasts
58.
Philip Klutznick, president of
the American and world B’nai
B’rith organizations, praised the
B’nai B’rith movement in this
country for its activities in inte
grating recent immigrants into
Israel life. He appealed for
greater understanding between
American and Israel Jewry and
said that the United States would
soon give further evidence of its
support of Israel.
Israel needs a great flow of
capital, investment dollars, to
reach its economic goal Mr.
Klutznick declared prior to his
departure from Israel. With this
capital, he said “a people eager to
work” will achieve its goals.
Mr. Klutznick participated in
the inauguration of a number of
B’nai B’rith projects in this coun
try, said that his organization had
taken a goal of selling $7,500,000
in Israel bonds and that he would
urge that this goal be exceeded.
The organization has already sold
$5,000,000 in bonds, he reported.
