SHERMAN FRANK
(Continued from page 8)
They endeavor by means of elab
orate full scale musical productions,
Broadway and Hollywood casts, to
introduce the new yearly product
exclusively to the dealers and
salesmen throughout the country.
The show is rehearsed as a typical
Broadway book musical for four
weeks in New York and is taken
on successive weekly stands to
New Orleans, Los Angeles, Chica
go, Detroit. New York, Atlanta. San
Francisco and many of the impor
tant geographical centers of the
count ry.
Last year’s season 1954 to 1955,
Sherman Frank was Musical Di
rector of the touring Romberg Fes
tival stalling Irra Pettina, Lanny
Ross, Lillian Shelby and Hugh
Thompson, which toured the coun
try m concert presentation of the
composer’s music in 60 cities. Also
m recent years, Mr. Frank became
solo piano recording artist for
SFSAC transet iption library (Stan
dard Edition of Selected American
Composers, i These arc recordings
w ich arc used exclusively for ra
dio broadcasting purposes through
out the country.
The 1955 season will mark Sher
man Frank’s first appearance as
Musical Director of the Municipal
Theater I’nder-the-Stars at the
Chastain Amphitheater.
Mr. Frank will come to Atlanta
this summer with his beautiful
wife, Lillian Shelby, and then-
daughter Susan Leslie, who was
born on February 1, 1955. Sher
man met his wife at the Curtis In
stitute. where they were both stu
dents. Lillian was studying voice.
They were graduated together in
19411. Mrs. Frank (Lillian Shelby)
has sung with the outstanding op
era companies in the country, and
has appealed on television with Ar
thur Godfrey, Robert Q. Lewis,
Jo n Conte and man others. The
Franks were married on June 17,
1 f' 51, and Maestro Frank says
"Through our mutual understand
ing of each other’s problems, we
have successfully combined both
careers with a most happy family
life. This has to a large extent
been responsible for our previous
successes, and feel that we have a
life ahead of many interesting and
compatible experiences.”
Sherman is an amateur photog
rapher. He’s an enthusiastic spec
tator of boxing, wrestling and ice
hockey. For relaxation, he loves
to swim, read, play tennis and ride
horseback. He’s a real television
fan, and he loves foreign food. He’s
very cosmopolitan in his choice . .
Italian, French, German, Japanese
and Creole dishes all appeal to him.
Sherman Frank is quite a fellow.
He’s an accomplished musician,
who looks like a movie star, talks
like a combination businessman
and artist, and possesses all the bet
ter features of each. We feel that
he will furnish that extra addition
al spark which will make this sea
son in the Municipal Theater Un-
der-the-Stars one to be remember
ed for many years.
