Swedish Neo-Nazis
By BERTIL SCHONKOPF
STOCKHOLM —
-vcdish Nazis are on the move
ni! Our small “Fuhrers" who
i always been faithful to the
Mem of their German fellow-be
ars. are witnessing the unre-
lined development of neo-Na-
i in Germany. This has en-
. imaged them to organize a new
anpaign in Sweden. As before,
::uy are approaching students at
Swedish colleges and Universities.
And they have been successful.
A neo-Nazi students association has
been founded at Uppsala Univer
sity. with Thorsten Gotherstrom as
i hairman. The new association of
ficially numbers only about ten
members, but the campaign is now
to be intensified. Members will be
i ciruited at student social func-
’ lolls.
\nti-Jewish Program
The program is definitely anti-
,Jew ish. There are a few points of
tin racial policy of the association
tc.it calls itself “New Sweden:”
Swi dish blood must not be mixed
with foreign elements; foreign and
noxious elements should not be al
lowed to immigrate to Sweden;
■Jewish immigration should be ban
ned, as such immigration would
woke anti-Semitism,” and Jews
should not hold high posts in this
country.
Similar “New Swedish” organ
izations were set up previously in
Stockholm and Lund, and a third
being planned in Gothenburg.
The chairman of the Uppsala as
sociation says he did not know that
the “New Swedish” movement
once originated from the Swedish
1 ousts Fight Organization, found
'd in 1923.
The Nazi students have their
1 m central organization, “The
Swedish National Students Feder-
h"n." the president of which is
Stockholm high school teacher,
ho has been a member of Hitler’s
affen-SS. His name is Dr. Per
ot Ihlefeldt.
Ihlefeldt is cooperating with the
ner SS General Arthur Erhardt
o the other leaders of the neo-
-u paper "Nation Europa” in Co-
• 1 g, Germany. Ihlefeldt declares:
’ e must not forget the small
ups which, in May 1945, lost
i civil rights. It was in the
!fen-SS with its 750,000 elite
hers that the national move-
t was created.”
■d Dr. Ihlefeldt has not for-
1 n. He fought in 1944-45 in
SS-Unit “Viking” together with
man Nazis in Balticum. He
ares openly that he is a Nazi
that his movement “fights de-
raev.”
efeldt’s “National Students
Southern Israelite
Federation” is affiliated with the
National Federation, a political
Nazi organization, headed by Dr.
Rutger Essen, one-time editor of
the Nazi daily “Dagspostem" (Dai
ly Post) which prospered in the
war years but ceased publication a
few years ago. ’Phis group has
about 7,000 members and support
ers.
I he neo-Nazi students associa
tions are also affiliated to the Mal-
mo (third city of Sweden) section
of the “European Social Move
ment,” head of which is Dr. Per
Engdahl, once one of the interna
tional Nazi top leaders. The Eng
dahl movement has about 4,000
members.
Efforts are being made to revive
notorious Nazi clubs that were ac
tive in the Hitler days. One of
these is called "Manhem." The
instigator is one of the “grand old
men" of Swedish Nazism, accord
ing to reliable sources. This man,
whose name has not been publish
ed yet. lives in Stockholm and was
one of the leaders of “Manhem."
Recently, he went to Gothenburg,
where he organized a meeting with
20 members of the society of “Swe
dish Men." Swedish Men is an
organization of national character,
which is not considered Nazi, but
during the war a number of its
members joined various Nazi or
ganizations.
Press and Publicity Activities
The Swedish Nazis have an ex
cellent press organization. The
“party organ” is “Fria Ord” (Free
Words), a Stockholm weekly edit
ed by Dr. Rutger Essen. It was
founded as a successor of the
“Dagsposten.” The latest issue of
a Malmo Nazi weekly, “Krets-
Nytt” (Circle News carries an ar
ticle about Hitler and his “blessed”
activities by the notorious Nazi
Annie Akerhielm, mother of a fa
mous Swedish journalist, Helge
Akerhielm (who has always shown
a pro-Jewish attitude.) “Krets-
Nytt” financed through fund-rais
ing campaigns organized among
its readers, and if the list of don
ors are correct, it proves that there
are quite a few people who are of
the opinion that this opposition
against democracy has a great task.
Another Nazi periodical is “Va-
gen Framat” (The Way Ahead),
edited by Engdahl. There are at
least four other Nazi papers. The
Swedish Nazi leaders are frequent
contributors to German and other
international Nazi papers, such as
the “Widerhall.” Einar Aberg, the
notorious Swedish Jew-baiter, re
ceived a short prison sentence not
long ago, for his worldwide distrib
ution of anti-Semitic pamphlets in
