It seems that painting is some thing like the Presidency of the United States. Everybody can he President in America. You have to get about 30,000,1)00 people to vote for you Mr. Eisenhower is both a painter and a President. But to he a good painter or a good President - that is something different. The famous German Jewish art ist. Max Lieberman, was painting the portiait of a physician, who finally grew weary of the numer ous sittings which Lieberman de manded of him. "The picture, as you have paint ed it, is already good; why do you ask me to sit more?” demanded the physician. "I’ll tell you," replied Lieber man. Is it perhaps that men, looking at the problems of the world, turn away from the many cosmic per plexities and find some peace in painting a 1 illy growing lazily in the back yard, or a run-down barn badly in need of repairs?
