was elected Queen of Ballyhoo
for 1955-56 at the annual banquet
held recently at the Standard
Town and Country Club.
Mrs. Jolaine Sandol of Nutley,
N. J., is the guest of her sisters
Mrs. Philip S. Robinson and Mrs.
Maurice Goldstein in Atlanta.
Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Oppenhei-
mer of Atlanta have returned
from a two weeks vacation in Mi
ami Beach ~spent there with
friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Barkin and
daughter Temme are among those
vacationing in Miami Beach, and
they have as their guest their
daughter, Mrs. Harold Arnovitz.
Miss Arlene Sherman has left
for a three-week visit to New
York, where she will visit her
aunt. From there she will go to
Baltimore and be the guest of her
cousin. Mrs. Elkan Ries Jr.
Mrs. Coleman Medintz and
daughter Marcia Dee of Atlanta
piotored to Chicago, with Mrs.
Medintz’s aunt and uncle, Mr. and
Mrs. Max Kobrine and son.
Mrs. Edna Cohen of Dallas, Tex
as is visiting her sister, Mrs. A.
A. Visanska and other relatives in
Atlanta.
Friends of Mrs. Maurice Frank
and Mrs. Abe London will be
happy to learn they are both re
cuperating after undergoing surg
ery at Piedmont Hospital.

Mr. Shaniker, a native of At
lanta, graduated in 1949 from the
University of Georgia, where he
was a member of Tau Epsilon
Phi fraternity. After service in
the Navy during World War II,
Mr. Shainker was associated with
Scripto for five and a half years.
He is a member of Fulton Ma
sonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Yara-
ab Temple and the Progressive
Club. He married the former
Miss Jacqueline Loewenberg of
New York in 1954.

When the Municipal Theatre
presents “Guys and Dolls” next
week, the musical’s namesakes
from the Atlanta Jewish Com
munity Center will be cm hand
for a look-see.
The Center group is composed
of young adults who organized
about a year ago and have picked
up momentum since with a string
of successful socials as imposing
as the Broadway run of the origi
nal musical itself.
It was natural that they shdbld
plan to see "Guys and Dolls.”
The management has made
available a block of seats at a
dollar each--in the two-dollar
section so a large group of the
A. J. C. C. "Guys and Dolls” are
planning to be on hand to enjoy
the "Guys and Dolls” on the
starlight theatre stage.

abond King” currently playing at
Chastain Amphitheatre. A nation
ally -famous contralto, she turns
actress for the roll. She’s a mem
ber of the Temple Choir and re
cently enthralled the Bonds for
Israel Testimonial Dinner for A.
J. Weinberg with her rendition
of Israeli and Hebrew songs.
Maestro Albert Coleman will
direct the 53-piece orchestra in
another "Pops” cconcert at 1:15
p. m. Sunday, July 24, at the Fox
Theatre. June Bonner of Atlanta
soprano; John Wiles, Colombus
barritone, and Jean Weiss Macon
Georgia pianist—will be soloists.
On July 17, the first “Pops” op
ener drew a crowd of 5.000.

Two Southerners are among
the nine teen-agers named win
ners of the national Washington
Letter contest sponsored by the
B. B. Y. O.
Entries were judged for the
best letter on the subject of “The
Present-day Significance of the
George Washington Letter to the
Hebrew Congregation at New
port.”
The Southerners are Ilene
Lichtenstein, 16, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Aaron Lichtenstein of
Atlanta and Sandra Kriss, 16, of
Dallas.
Other winners are Marcia Hor-

The Green Bay Jewish Welfare
Fund’s 1955 campaign closed with
a figure well over last year’s ef
fort. The 1955 drive garnered $46,-
000 as against the 1954 total of
$27,000 it was announced at a
community wide meeting here.

the U. S. Army and has resumed
his law practice with offices in the
Haas-Howell Building in Atlanta.
He holds a B.B.A. Degree from
the University of Georgia and

Georgia Bar and S. C. Bar. He
had practiced law formerly in
McRae, Ga., and with several
