Fine Summer Food
For Calorie Counters
One of the most important se
crets of keeping cool during the
sweltering summer months is of
ten no more than a matter of el
ementary arithmetic. By sub
tracting calories from your diet,
you can add immeasurably to your
comfort. It’s as simple as that—
and a recent study of the caloric
content of various protein foods
reveals that Manischewitz Gefilte
Fish, while high in nutrition, is
low in caloric content.
A two and one-half ounce por
tion of Manischewitz Gefilte Fish,
for example — enough to make
a light meal in itself — contains
only 70 calories, as compared to
twice that amount for other com
parable protein foods and more
than three times as much for va
rious types of meat. A two and
one-half ounce portion of drain
ed canned tuna fish, Chinook sal
mon or boned chicken contains at
least 140 calories; pot roast, rib
roast and cooked hamburger av
erages 220 to 240 calories per two
and one-half ounce serving.
In terms of serving convenience
as well, Manischewitz Gefilte
Fish ranks right at the top in pro
moting summer comfort. It’s
ready to serve in a cool 15 sec
onds — that’s all it requires to
take it from the refrigerator and
flip the lid off the jar.
Made with a traditional blend
of lake-fresh, lucious whitefish,
pike and carp, gently seasoned to
bring out the full, fine flavor of
the fish, Manischewitz Gefilte
Fish is available in all independ
ent grocers, super markets, chain
stores in the following sizes:
Jumbo shape — 10 oz., 1 lb., 2 lb.
and 4 lb.; Round shape: in lb.
jars — Fishlets, perfect for hors
d’oeuvres and party snacks come
In lb and 2 lb. jars.
From Britain; Navy Strengthened
CARDIFF, WALES, (JTA) —
The Israel Navy received power
ful reinforcements this week-end
when two British destroyers, the
Zealous and the Zodiac, were
transferred under the blazing sun
of this Welsh seaport. The de
stroyers were renamed Elath and
Yaffo — names selected by Minis
ter of Defense David Ben Gurion.
The short formal transfer cer
emony took place here in 80 de
gree temperature. A small Brit
ish naval detachment was up on
the foredeck of H. M. S. Zealous.
Shortly afterwards, the comman
ders of the South Wales and Ply
mouth reserve fleets, accompan
ied by Captain J. Fitzroy and L.
Forbes of the Admiralty, were
piped aboard. They were joined
by three officers of the Israel
Navy — Lt. Cmdr. Y. Shapiro, Lt.
Cmdr. A. Barak and Lt. Y. Mar-
galit.
Watched from the jetty by the
commander-in-chief of the Israel
Navy, Capt. S. Tana, the director
general of the Israel Defense Min
istry F. Peres and the members
of his staff, and Israel Embassy
officials, headed by charge d’af
faires Gershon Abner — two pet
ty officers aboard the Zealous
lowered the British ensign to the
accompaniment of more bosun’s
pipes, while shore and jetty par
ties stood at attention.
The British party then took
leave of the ship to another blast
of the pipes, the last senior of
ficer carrying with him the ship’s
nameplate. The three Israel of
ficers left on board then took
up positions forward, and at a
signal from the pipes, Lt. Cmdr.
Shapir raised the blue and white
ensign of the Israel Navy.
Capt. Tanna then went aboard,
where he was greeted by Lt.
Cmdr. Shapiro with the words:
“Israel naval ship at your com
mand, sir.” Capt. Tana then un
veiled the ship’s new nameplate
—Elath—and invited the British
and Israel groups on the jetty to
join him. For nearly an hour af
terwards the British officers con
ducted the Israelis on a tour of
the Elath, which was built in
1944 and has never seen active
service. After refitting, the El
ath and the Yaffo, which lies at
the nearby Penarth dockyard, will
be taken to their home ports by
Israel sailors. At present, their
weapons and other equipment are
in protective cocoons.
Earlier, the Israelis had enter
tained the British naval officers
at a luncheon here, where toasts
were proposed to the Queen, by
Mr. Abner, and the President of
Israel, by Capt. Fitzroy. Today’s
ceremony was seen by Mr. Peres
as a contribution to strengthening
friendly relations between Brit
ain and Israel. He thanked Brit
ish Minister of State Selwyn
Lloyd and Foreign Undersecretary

To Pitch In For
Blood Bank Day
“The Egyptian mummies don’t
need your blood — but modern
America does.”
This slogan is being used by the
Jewish War Veterans Post 112
and Fulton Masonic Lodge for
their community-wide Blood Do
nor day scheduled for Sunday,
July 31.
The Red Cross needs blood for
accidents, war victims, emergen
cies and many other uses, the two
groups pointed out.
The Red Cross Blood Bank
Headquarters on Peachtree street
will be opened from 9 to noon
for the event, according to Sam
Arnovitz, chairman for JWV.
Two tickets to the Crackers,
through the courtesy of Earl
Mann, will be given to each don
or.
Evelyn Shuckburgh for their co
operation, revealing that, together
Israel Ambassador Eliahu Elath,
he had been discussing with them
the whole question — political
and techcnical — of British arms
supplies to Israel.
In a statement to the Jewish
Telegraphic Agency, Mr. Peres
said that insofar as the two de
stroyers were concerned he felt
Israel had had a fair deal. The
ships were in good shape, the
price paid was a fair one and
naval cooperation had been ex
cellent. As an example, he cit
ed the fact that the British Navy
had undertaken to train an Is
rael complement to man the ship.
