Alper-Arkin
SAVANNAH,— Miss June Al-
per, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Ben Alper of Chicago, became the
bride of Dr. Murray Arkin, son
of Mr. and Mrs. B. Arkin of Sa
vannah, on June 29 in the Crystal
ballroom of the Shaaraton-
Blackstone Hotel in Chicago.
Cantor Telvele Cohen performed
the ceremony.
Mrs. Melvyn Alper, sister-in-
law of the bride was matron of
honor. The bridesmaides were
M.rs Allan Coplin, Mrs. Dreyfus
and Mrs. Edward Glatt, Jr.

groom, served as best man, and
the usher-groomsmen were Ben
Kantsiper, Harold Seeman and
Melvyn Alper.
A seated dinner was served im
mediately following the cere
mony. Following the dinner, a
receution was held.
Upon their return from a trip
to Miami Beach and Jamica,
B. W. I., Dr. and Mrs. Arkin will
live in Chicago, where he is a resi
dent physician at Presbyterian
Hospital.
Jacobs - Hanan
CHATTANOOGA,— Announce
ment has been made of the
marriage of Helen Elaine Jacobs,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph
Jacobs, to Victor Morris Hanan,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Hanan
of Atlanta, which took place July
3 at the B’nai Zion Synagogue.

CHATTANOOGA — Judith
Anne Fishel, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs.^Ben Fishel of Cairo, Ill., be
came the bride of Alvin Richelson,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Richel-
son of Chattanooga July 3 at the
B’nai Amoona Synagogue in St.
Louis. Rabbi H. E. Halpern, who
officiated at the ceremony, was
assisted by George Fagen of Chi
cago, great uncle of the bride, who
served as cantor.
Mrs. Mitchell Bush, sister of
the bridegroom, was matron of
honor. Marilyn Fishel, sister of
the bride, was maid of honor. The
bridesmaids were Mrs. Mark
Spector, sister of the bridegroom,
and Brenda Solomon of Cairo,
Phyllis Fishel and Ruthie Levine
of St. Louis. Pennie Richelson
and Sharry Fishel were junior
bridesmaids.

Following the ceremony, Mr.
and Mrs. Fishel entertained at a
reception, a wedding supper and
a dance at the Sheraton Hotel.
The bride’s parents were assisted
in receiving by the bride’s grand
mother, Mrs. S. Solomon, of Cairo.
After a wedding trip to Florida
and points south the couple will
reside in Chicago, where the
bridegroom is stationed with the
U. S. Army.
Murrill - Surasky
AIKEN,— Mrs. Lois Murill,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. M.
Selvidge of Tampa became the
bride of Benjamin Surasky, son of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Sol Surasky,
at the home of the bride in Aiken,
The ceremony was performed by
Probate Judge Glen Willis.
Harry Surasky, brother of the
groom, was best man. Mrs. Jerry
Stump of Tampa, sister of the
bride, was matron of honor.
Immediately following the cere
mony a reception was held. Bever
ly Surasky presided at the punch
bowl.
During the evening, Mr. and
Mrs. Surasky left for a three
weeks’ wedding trip to New York
and on their return will make
their home at 1121 Laurens St., In
Aiken.
Schnur - Sturman
Mrs. Fannie Schnur of Atlanta
announces the engagement of her
daughter, Doris Sylvia Schnur, to
Robert Stanley Sturman, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Sturman.
Miss Schnur was graduated
from Weequahic High School in
Newark, N. J., and attended
Peninsula Institute of Accounting
in Miami.
Mr. Sturman was graduated
from Boys High School and re
ceived a B. S. degree from the
Atlanta Division, University of
Georgia. He is employed by the
U. S. Treasury Department, In
ternal Revenue Service.
The wedding will take plaje in
the early fall.
Schmid - Cavell
Miss Marcia Louise Schmid,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William
A. Schmid of Chicago, became the
bride of Stanley L. Cavell, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Irving I. Goldstein
of California and Atlanta, July
15 at Temple Beth Israel in Bos
ton. Rabbi Leon Jick performed
the ceremony.
Following the ceremony Mr,
and Mrs. Schmid were hosts at a
wedding reception at the Shera
ton Plaza.
The bride who has been work
ing for a doctorate in philosophy
at Radcliffe, taught philosophy
at Harvard University during the
past year. She is a graduate of
Leland University to which she
transferred after two years at
Smith College.
Mr. Cavell, who was graduated
from the University of Califor
nia,'has been working for his doc
tor's degree in philosophy at Har
vard where he is a member of
the distinguished Society of Fel
lows.
After spending a few days in
Maine, the couple returned to
Cambridge to complete plans for
their departure August 24 on the
Queen Mary for a year of travel
and study in Europe. On their
return Mr. Cavell will teach in
the philosophy department at the
University of California in Ber
keley.
Little Judy Birnbey sneaked into a group of young women to see
what was up for the Atlanta Zionist Family Dance. There she found
three charming hostesses, Miss Norma Russ, Mrs. Israel Katz, and
Miss Charlotte Horowitz.

The first Atlanta Zionist Fami
ly Dance will be popping Wed
nesday night with the mambo, tap
dancing, comedy pantmine and
plenty of surprises.
August 3 is the night and the
Progressive Club is the place. Fes
tivities begin at 9 p. m.
Those taking part in th floor
show are Miss Sylvia Lafkowitz,
Saul Blumenthal of Royston, Msr.
Hal Cole, Mrs. Joseph Dayan, and
Richard Cooper.
Surprises will come by way of
the young women from Emma
Lazarus group of Hadassah. who
will act as hostesses. Mrs. Sam
Leaf is in charge of gifts the girls
will be distributing, and Mrs.
Jack Zwecker is in charge of hos
tesses.
