Census in Fairfield
Shows Professions
of Jewish Population
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (JTA) —
A survey of the Jewish commun
ity of the nearby town of Fair-
field has revealed that the bread
winners of the 500 Jewish families
are chiefly professionals, owners
and executives, but with a goodly
number of semi-skilled workers.
The professionals, the survey
indicated, number 134, the own
ers, managers and executives total
246 and the semi-skilled workers
come to 139. Included in the latter
category are 34 factory workers
and five truck drivers. Although
Fairfield Jews make up only one-
eighth of the Jewish population
of the Bridgeport area, they sup
ply almost one-third of the funds
raised for the Bridgeport United
Jewish Campaign. The survey,
carried out by the Jewish com
munity center of Bridgeport in
cooperation with Fairfield Jews,
also found .that the 500 families
had 919 children.
