Few Jews Now
Entering U. S.,
Report Shows
WASHINGTON, (JTA) — Rel
atively few Jews are coming to
the United States under the Ref
ugee Relief Act, it was revealed
in the semi-annual report to Con
gress on the refugee program. Of
a total of 45,882 veritifed assur
ances by voluntary agencies
sponsoring immigrants under the
Act, only 1,378 are listed for the
United Hias Service.
The report also reveals that of
2,000 visas available to Arab ref
ugees, only 235 have been grant
ed. However, the report said
that 1,072 cases of Palestinian
Arabs are now under “active con
sideration” and added that re
cently organizations especially
interested in Arab refugees made
progress in finding American cit
izens as sponsors for the admis
sion of Palestine Arab refugees
to the United States. “New assur
ances are currently being receiv
ed at a rate of 100 a month,” the
report stated, expressing the be
lief that “almost all of the visas
authorized for Palestine Arabs
will be issued."

A. D. L. Appeals to Candidates
To Avoid Bigotry in Campaigns
WASHINGTON, (JTA) — A resolution appealing to political
leaders and candidates to “repudiate publicly the efforts of hate-
mongers to inject bigotry” into the election campaign and to spurn
the support of any individual or group “which invokes racial or re
ligious prejudice as a campaign technique,” was adopted here last
night at the concluding session of the national executive committee
of the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith. Another resolution
endorsed President Eisenhower’s recommendations for re-examina
tion of the national origins quota system as the basis of United
States immigration laws.
The ADL forwarded to the State Department its report on Arab
propaganda activities in the United States aimed at American Jews.
In an accompanying letter to Secretary of State Dulles, the ADL’s
national chairman, Henry E. Shultz, asked that the report be given
study and consideration “in the hope that it will be helpful in our
government’s efforts to check such divisive foreign propaganda at
tacks upon Americans of Jewish faith by representatives of foreign
governments.”
