Pace Two V If Friday, April 6, 1956 Hildegarde Bennett Innovation Apr. 12-13 At Ballet Concert by JANICE ROTHSCHILD She’s* done it again! Hildegarde Bennett, the dazzling little lady with the shows up her sleeve, is up to her old tricks of staging something entirely new. This time it’s a ballet written to words rather than music, the words be ing those of Gordon Jenkins’ de lightful ‘‘Man hattan Towers.” The Atlanta Civic Ballet, of which Hilde- barde is a co director, will first present this work at its annual con cert next Thursday and Friday nights, Ap ril 12 and 13, at the Tower Thea ter, with Albert Coleman’s Pops Choir and Ruth Kent, of WBS- TV, doing the narration. Although major glee clubs and choirs throughout the country have presented “Manhattan Tow ers," this is the first time that it has been produced with cho reography. As early as 1951, Hil degarde sought to create chore ography for it but was prevented from doing so at the time because it had not then been published. Still unavailable to the public, the manuscript has been rented by the Civic Ballet for these per formances. Extremely modern, even jazzy in parts, this produc tion marks the beginning of local venture into the field of dance theater. In addition to “Manhattan Towers,” the Civic Ballet will pre sent “Fireworks,” a suite by Dorothy Alexander, its founder and director, with music com posed especially for it by Hugh Hodgson. A new ballet by Zach ary Solov, ballet master of the Metropolitan Opera Company, will also be given. This is en titled “Carnival of Destiny,” and was staged by dancer Marianna Williams of the Civic Ballet. Completing the program in the classical idiom, the Civic Ballet will offer the immortal favorite “Les Sylphides.” There will be a children’s mat inee at the Tower Theater on Friday, April 13, in which the Apprentice Company of the At lanta Civic' Ballet will participate. They will present “The Twelve Dancing Princesses.” Citation, Fortnight Vacation Features For B. B.
