Here is Atlanta’s Plan
by BECKY CHENEY
There has been something new
added to the traditional three "R’s”
of Atlanta’s high schools. The ad
dition could be known as the three
“S’s” - Sportsmanship, Skill, and
Safety. The three “S’s” are learned
in driver e.lu.ation classes, avail
able for the first time this year :n
all Atlanta high schools.
High school driver education in
cludes not only hours of practice
in dual control cars, but also inten
sive classroom preparation. In class
students study and discuss good
attitudes, physical characteristics
of the good driver, rules of the
road, mechanics of the automobile,
causes of accidents, care of the car,
pedestrian protection, and a host
of allied timely topics.
Not only are the tee. ageis setting
a good example for their contem
poraries; they aic also passing
along valuable information to their
parents.
In Atlanta the high school driver

Motor Club, local affiliate of the
American Automobile Association.
The Board of Education provides
teachers' salaries, gas, oil, upkeep
of cars, and insurance. During 1D"C-

Inc., Crest Motor Co., Lander Mo
tors, Inc., Westbrook Motors, Inc.,
Chick Barron, Inc., John Smith Co..
Ernest G. Beaudry, Inc., Gouldman-
Taber Pontiac, Wade Motor Co.,
Inc., and Downtown Chevrolet Co.
The total of eleven cars are shared
among Atlanta’s 18 high schools.
The First National Bank of At
lanta assists the car dealers in loan
ing ears to school by floor plann
ing the cars for the period of time
they are on loan to the Board of
Education.
The Georgia Motor Club coordi
nates the program for the Board of
Education and pays for the dual
controls, their installation and re
moval. The motor club provides of
ficial AAA driver training decals
for identification of the cars. Va
rious teaching aids are provided at
no cost by the club. Five driver
training films are available to
teachers upon request from the
