It Is the Most Progressive Private School in Atlanta Because—
(1) The educational system of the Academy is on a par with the finest
private accredited schools in Atlanta. OUR 1956 SCHOOL TESTING
PROGRAM PROVED AN ATTAINMENT OF AN ACHIEVE
MENT LEVEL HIGH ABOVE THE NATIONAL AVERAGE. In
addition, our students receive a broad instruction in Hebraic Cul
ture in the areas of language, history, literature, music, customs
and ceremonies.
(2) Our school is an independent private educational institution sup
ported by the entire community. As such our faculty does not adhere
to or follow the dicates of any denominational group. Our curri
cula, texts and methods of education conform with the require
ments of the state and city Boards of Education and the Atlanta
Bureau of Jewish Education.
(3) Our excellent integrated Elementary School and Hebrew cultural
programs “under one roof,” permits FREE afternoons for your
children to play or to participate in other creative and recreation
al activities.
(4) Due to limited numbers in small classes of 17. Our teachers are able
to devote individual attention to each student.
(5) The children in our school learn what it means to be Jewish in a

way that will make them happy and proud. They will be better Jews
and better Americans.
(6) Our teachers of Elementary School subjects are certified and ac
credited by the state Board of Education. Should students transfer
to other schools, complete credit for work done at the Academy is
granted.
7) Growing annually, the Day School movement during the past few
years has reached a total enrollment of over 38,000 children. There
are 190 such schools throughout the United States and Canada. At
lanta’s Academy is the seventh established in the Southeast. Other
Southern communities supporting such schools are Greater Miami,
Memphis, Chattanooga, Savannah, Louisville and Miami Beach.
(8) The Kindergarten is served snacks, and the higher grades receive
hot lunches.

U. S. private schools are something
of a national necessity, said U. S. Ed
ucation Commissioner Samuel M.
Brownell last week: “It is sometimes
said that (the private schools) are un
democratic and un-American. The fact
is, however, that ... by their historic
contributions to our tradition of free
dom of belief and freedom to teach
. . . they exemplify a democratic free
dom . . . Cultivation of a habitual
awareness of God and . . . teaching the
history and bases of religion are in
alienable rights which the non-public
schools may exercise in their attempts
to make God-centered rather than self-
centered youth.” Indeed, concluded
Brownell, the greatness of American
education as a whole is due largely to
“its very diversity.”

Those who anticipated with trepida
tion the possibility that such Jewish
schools, because of budgetary prob
lems, would produce inferior students
in secular subjects, now know that, the
record of student achievement has been
a most excellent one and has redound
ed to the glory of our people, The Chi
cago Jewish Academy for example,
rated the highest percentage of college
scholarships of all the city’s high
schools, on a competitive examination
basis.
