Jack Goldberg Dies;
Headed Beth Jacob
Jack M. Goldberg, 52, of At
lanta, died June 22. Funeral ser
vices were held June 24 at the
chapel of Henry M. Blanchard &
Son. Rabbi Emanuel Feldman of
ficiated. Interment was in Green
wood Cemetery.
Mr. Goldberg was president and
founder of the Piedmont Engin
eering and Construction Co. He
had been a resident of Atlanta
since 1045.
A native of Vilna, Lithuania,
Mr. Goldberg was formerly as
sociated with a civilian flying
school and at one time held the
light plane altitude record.
A veteran of World War II, he
served in the regular Air Force
and the air transport command.
At the time of his discharge in
1945 he held the rank of captain.
He was president of Beth Jacob
Synagogue, a member of the May-
fair Club, the Zionist Organiza
tion and the B’nai B’rith.
Surviving are his wife; son,
Stephen Goldberg; daughters,
Mrs. Donald Goldstein and Miss
Naomi Goldberg, all of Atlanta;
mother, Mrs. Celia Goldberg,
Fayetteville, N. C.; brother, J. G.
Mrs. Sarah Koplin
Mrs. Sarah Koplin, 85, of At
lanta, died June 8. Funeral ser
vices were held June 8 at t^ie
chapel of Henry M. Blanchard
and Son. Rabbi Harry H. Ep
stein officated. Interment was in
Greenwood Cemetery.
Born in Russia, Mrs. Koplin,
the former Sarah Hoffman, had
lived the greater part of her life
in Atlanta. She was the widow of
Phillip Koplin. She was a mem
ber of the Ahavath Achim Syna
gogue.
Surviving are a son, Simon
Koplin, Atlanta; five daughters,
Mrs. P. M. Brown, Miss Gertrude
Koplin, Atlanta; Misses Anne and
Bess Koplin, New York City, and
Mrs. Volpin, Savannah; two
grandchildren and two great
grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Stella L. Oppenheim; a son, Louis
J. Oppenheim; a sister, Mrs. L.
Perlmutt; three grandchildren;
a niece, Mrs. Joseph T. Taft and
a nephew, Dr. Joseph H. Perl

Isadore Hirsch
MACON — Isadore Hirsch of
Macon died June 4.
Rabbi Newton J. Friedman
conducted the funeral on June 6
at Memorial Chapel, with inter
ment in William Wolff Ceme
tery.
Mr. Hirsch was born in Ger
many eighty-one years ago. He
had lived in Macon over sixty
years.
Surviving are his wife; a son
Emile, a daughter, Mrs. Leo E.
Reese, both of Macon, and six
grandchildren.
Mrs. Rosa Weiss
Mrs. Rosa Weiss, 69, of Atlanta
died .June 18. Funeral services
were held May 19 at the chapel
of Henry M. Blanchard and Son.
Rabbi Dr. Harry H. Epstein of
ficiated. Interment was in Green
wood Cemetery.
Surviving are sons, L. B. Degan,
Atlanta, and W. S. Degan, New
York City; four grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews.

was granted a scholarship for a
week of leadership training
through the Southern Zionist
Youth Commission at Camp Blue
Star.
Anne Solomon, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Arthur W. Solomon, Jr.,
of Savannah received her bache
lor of arts degree at Swarth-
more College, Swarthmore, Pa.,
this month.
Monie Alan Ferst of Atlanta,
former Savannahian, has been
awarded, the Georgia Tech 1956
Alumni Distinguished Service
Award. Mr. Ferst, chairman of
the board of Scripto Pencil, Inc.,
and his wife have left for Eng
land where Mr. Ferst will be in
volved in discussions with an
English firm recently bought out
by Scripto.
Dr. and Mrs. G. E. Caplan of
Albany, Calif., visited her grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs.'J. A. Weil,
and her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
J. D. Weil.

announce the birth of a son Ir
win Marc, on May 15. Mrs. Pol
lock is the former Riette Rab-
han.
Dr. and Mrs. Maurice Fields
announce the birth of a daughter,
Jeanmare, May 30. Mrs. Fields
is the former Phyllis Meddin.

daughter Rachel of Salisbury,
N. C., visited Mrs. Oestricher’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Weil.
Mrs. Murray M. Silver and
Mrs. Leonard S. Kramer enter
tained at a luncheon for Mrs.
Diane Danzig prior to her mar
riage to Stanley Friedman which
was a recent event.
Mrs. Herbert Buschsbaum and
Mrs. Jack Barnett entertained at
a luncheon in honor of Miss Carol
ShWman whose marriage to Ron
ald Allen was performed on June
24.
A poem by Anita Rashin ap
pears in the current issue of the
Georgia Review. It is entitled
“Come Tread Me a Metrical Mea
sure.” Miss Raskin is active in
the Poetry Society of Georgia and
has won a number of awards.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Deich were
hosts at an alfresco party in hon
or of Sally Rotkow and William
Levine, whose marriage took place
on June 17.

Birmingham were the recent
week-end guests of Mrs. Meyer

Julian V. Boehm, retired At
lanta businessman and leader in
civic affairs, has been named a
vice president of the International
Brotherhood of Magicians at the
annual convention in Miami
Beach. Mr. Boehm has presented
Magic shows in and around ‘ At
lanta for several years.
Ben Loewinshon’s net 77 and
C. B. Altman’s 78 took top honors
in the Southeastern Architects
golf tournament last week at East
Lake.
Cantor Joseph Schwartzman has
sung at hundreds of weddings
since his association with Ahav
ath Achim Congregation — but
when the time came for the wed
ding of his daughter Anita to
David Odrezin of Savannah, he
had to pass up the songs for the
paternal activities which kept him
and his wife under the “chup-
pah.” There was however the
Schwartzman touch in the wed
ding’s music and the Synagogue
choir which he directs at other
occasions furnished the songs. In
fact Cantor Schwartzman him
self transliterated the words of
Lohengrin’s Bridal March into
Hebrew. He also wrote a solo
part for Mrs. Herbert Karp, who
directed the choir in place of the
cantor. Taking part in the choir
were Harry Siegel, Morris Amato,
Jack Isenberg, Morris Shulmeist-
er, Max Podber, Harold Arno-
witz, Mrs. Bernard Rosenfeld,
Mrs. Stanley Siegel, Mrs. Heinz
Bauer, Mrs. Bea Sailing.
Mr. and Mrs. I. B. (Bucky)
Freedman of Great Neck, N. Y.,
with their four sons, will arrive
July 7 to visit their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Sam E. Levy. Also visit
ing the Levys will be their chil
dren, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Good
rich of Milledgeville, Ga., and
son.
Joel Isenberg, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Isenberg of Atlanta,
is recovering from a heart opera
tion he underwent two weeks
ago at the University of Minne
sota Hospital in Minneapolis. His
parents are with him in Minnea
polis.
Ross H. Sterner, son of Dr. and
Mrs. D. L. Sterrtier, was one of
70 students of the Graduate
School of Journalism at Colum
bia University w-ho received a
master’s degree. Mr. Sterner has
now entered the public relations
department of the General Elec
tric Company in Schenectady.
