year, is the gtandson of Mr. J.
Krupnick and his paternal grand
father is the late Rabbi Morde-
chai Miller who served the Val
dosta Congregation for many
years. Martin is named after his
esteemed grandfather.
Although this Bar Mitzvah oc
curred during a week-day, there
was a special festiveness per
meating the air. The Synagogue
was beautifully bedecked with
floral arrangements.
The Bar Mitzvah boy excellent
ly assisted Rabbi Gorod in lead
ing the Service and beautifully
chanted the traditional Blessings.
He held the attention of the en
tire congregation as he very cap
ably presented his Bar Mitzvah
Address.
There is something special
about a Bar Mitzvah boy. It has
nothing to do with his previous
training or background. It is
something quite apart from every
thing that has touched his life
before. It is his Faith; his readi
ness to come before G-D in the
presence of his people and accept
the ways of his ancestors. As
Martin, donned in Prayer Shawl
and Tephillin, stood on the pul
pit praying, it became apparent
that in the Miller 1 household there
will be three generations praying
together with Tallis and Teffill-
in every morning, as his grand
father, Mr. J. Krupnick resides
with them.
Donning Tallis and Tefillin every
morning does not only mean that
Judaism is strengthened, it means
that the individual is strength
ened. It means the maximum in
surance for spiritual vitality and
health. It means interpreted faith
into everyday living and it means
the continuation and not the ter
mination of being a Bar Mitzvah,
the son of the Covenant.
After the significant Service,
Mr. and Mrs. Miller invited the
Congregation into the Annex for
a delightful party honoring their
son.

CAKE

make
the cake!
This is the month for outdoor
cookery with many families,
especially where there are the
“teen-’tween” members of both
sexes to please. Even if it is only
a cook-out in the backyard, it
does require some planning ahead.
Most of all it means that the
menu should be simplified in
every way, and still be acceptable
by every member of the party.
So, make it easy for the kitchen
engineer, too. Do as little “heat
ing up” of the kitchen as pos
sible if your menu should in
clude the following favorite cheese
dish which we have heard called
“Sirniki” by some of our East
European friends. We call it
'CHEESE PANCAKE
cup fine cracker crumbs or
3 cups dry pot cheese
2 eggs, slightly beated with
V& teaspoon salt
2/3 cup sifted flour, approxi
mately
!4 cup fine cracker crumbs or
Matzo meal
>4 cup butter or substitute
(salad oil will do)
Sour cream for topping
Combine pot cheese with beat
en eggs. Stir in sourcream and
sifted flour. The mixture should
be thick enough to form into balls
the size of a small apple. Pat
down each of the balls to half
inch thickness and be sure to
cover both sides with fine crumbs.
Or roll each ball in crumbs be
fore patting to desired thickness.
Heat butter in a heavy fryiing pan
over moderate heat. Fry pan
cakes on each side till nicely
browned. Drain on paper towls.
Serve hot with plenty of sour
cream topping. Serves 4.
Variations can be made by add
ing 2 tablespoons of caraway
seeds to the mixture before fry
ing, or adding them to the sour
cream topping.
Another variation that is pleas
ing especially if the pancakes
must be prepared an hour in
advance, is to arrange them in
a shallow casserole or baking
dish and add enough sourcream to
cover. Place in a warm oven for
15 to 20 minutes but do not wait
till the sourcream is at the “run
ning” stage to serve. Top with
minced fresh dill or parsley.
With the above “main dish,”
