Moslem Scores Arab Leaders
At Interfaith Peace Lunch
NEW YORK, (AJP) — A
leading Moslem, Prof. Saifrom
Fatemi of Iran, who served as a
UN delegate for his country be
tween 1950 and 1953, declared in
New York this week that “the
Arab leaders have no conception
of democracy” and that instead of
“worrying” about the few hun
dred thousand Palestinian refu
gees they should try to do some
thing to better the lot of their
own thirty-five million poverty-
stricken subject-refugees. “The
real enemy,” he said, “is poverty
and the ruling classes in the
Arab world.”
Prof. Fatemi, who was the
main speaker at a luncheon of
the World Interfaith Committee
for Peace in the Holy Land,
Col. Oberdorfer
Has Active Duty
Tour at Robins
Col. Eugene Oberdorfer, long
a leader in Atlanta’s business,
civic and Jewish life and chair
man of the Fourth Army Area,
JWB-Armed Services Committee,
received the following writeup in
the June 21 issue of the ‘‘Robins
Rev-U%,” newspaper at Robins
Air Force: '
A retired National Guard Brig
adier General, Colonel Eugene
Oberdorfer of Atlanta, has been
on a two-week tour of active
duty at Robins Air Force Base
as a colonel in the Air Force.
The prominent Reservist, who
refers to himself as the “old
doughboy,” is a mobilization as
signee with the Warner Robins
Air Material Area. He is under-
studying Col. LeRoy Hudson,
WRAMA Deputy Commander, re
ceived training in the job in
which he would be expected to
serve in case of an emergency.
Col. Oberdorfer comes to Rob
ins periodically during the year
for active and inactive duty train
ing. As a civilian, he is president
of the Empire Realty and Mortg
age Co., the American Insurance
Securities Corporation and Fidel
ity Trust Co. of Atlanta.
He is also quite active in civ
ic affairs in Atlanta. Col. Ober
dorfer is past commander, At
lanta Post No. 1, American Le
gion; past president, Atlanta
Jaycees; past director, Chamber
of Commerce; and past grand
superior of the Phi Epsilon Pi
fraternity. He is also a member
of the Atlanta Mortgage Banking
Association; Military Orders of
World Wars; and Son of Confed
erate Veterans.
He belongs to various service
organizations, including the Air
Force Association and Reserve
Officers Association. He is a

longs to the Standard Town and
Country Club. A graduate of Ma-
rist College and the University of
Georgia, he resides at 1327 Peach
tree St.

• in the Middle Georgia area where
he is receiving his training. As
an Infantry Captain during World
War I, he served as Infantry
Commandant at the Third Offi
cers Training Camp at Camp
Wheeler, Macon. He has another
tie with Maeon in that one of
his daughters, Mrs. Frank Happ,

PONCE DE LEON '
at HIGHLAND
ridiculed the Arab demands at
the UN. He declared that “there
is no precedent in history where
a defeated nation should dictate
terms as the Arab leaders are
and demand that a pre-Armistice
condition be resurrected before
any peace can be made.” Such
demands,” he added, “are against
all international law.”
The Iranian Professor, now
teaching in a New Jersey Uni
versity, said that he is telling all
his Arab friends that it is high
time they accepted Israel as a
fact. ‘‘Only a miracle,” he de
clared, “can explain the birth of
Israel against the overwhelming
odds.”
While Prof. Fatemi expressed
the view that one Israeli brigade
could easily stop any Syrian in
vasion, he did not think Nasser
would be foolish enough to risk
his career in a war with Israel at
this time. ‘‘The Egyptians are
not prepared for any blow from
Israel,” he said. “The first coun
ter-attack from Israel would
arouse the whole population
against the dictator Nasser.”
The Rev. Dr. Richard E. Evans
of New York’s Labor Temple and
chairman of the'Committee, pre
sided at the luncheon.
