Morris Stoltz
Morris Stoltz, 71, of Atlanta,
died July 10. Funeral services
were held July 11, at the chapel
of Henry M. Blanchard & Son.
Rabbi Tobias Geffen and Cantor
Joseph Schwartzman officiated.
Interment was in Greenwood
Cemetery.
Mr. Stoltz, a retired merchant,
was bom in Poland. He had lived
in Atlanta 45 years. He was a
member of the Beth Jacob Syna
gogue.
Surviving are his wife; one son,
Arthur Stoltz, and a daughter,
Miss Lena Stoltz, all of Atlanta.

Benjamin Lahman, 73, of At
lanta, died July 13. Funeral ser
vices were held July 15 at the
chapel of Henry M. Blanchard
& Son. Rabbi Emanuel Feldman
and Cantor Joseph Schwartzman
officiated. Interment was in
Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Lahman, a retired grocer,
was a member of the Ahavath
Achim Synagogue and the Work
men’s Circle.
Surviving are his wife; a son,
Isadore Lahman of Washington,
D. C.; two daughters, Mrs. Wil
liam Witkin of Washington and
Mrs. Harry Shapiro of Tampa and
a brother Harry Lahman of At
lanta.
Dr. Petegorsky Dies
NEW YORK, (JTA) — Dr.
David W. Petegorsky, national
director of the American Jewish
Congress, died here last night at
the age of 41. Funeral services
were held July 17.
He was the brother-in-law of
Dr. Abe Geffen, formerly of At
lanta.
Born in Ottawa, Dr. Petegorsky
obtained his education at Yesh-
iva University in New York and
the London School of Economics.

ed an invitation in 1945 from
the late Dr. Stephen S. Wise to
become executive director of the
American Jewish Congress. In
1948, he was elected a member
of the executive of the World
Jewish Congress.
Dr. Petegorsky, who travelled
extensively in Europe, North Af
rica and Israel in connection with
his activities for the American
and World Jewish Congresses,
was also an author and lecturer.
He wrote “Left Wing Democracy
in the English Civil War,” “Com
batting Racism” and “The Jew
ish Community” and co-author-
ed “Strategy for Democracy"
with J. Donald Kingsley, former
director of the United Nations
Korean Reconstruction Agency.
Isaac Rosenfeld
CHICAGO, July 16. (JTA) —
Isaac Rosenfeld, novelist, short
story writer and educator, died
here yesterday. He was 38. Mr.
Rosenfeld taught English and the
humanities at the Universities of
Chicago and Minnesota and at
New York University. He was
awarded a Guggenheim Fellow
ship in 1947.

Mrs. Kalmon Saul and daugh
ter, Maxine, are vacationing at
Miami Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Max Bogoslawsky
and daughter Sheila are spend
ing a wek at Miami Beach. From
there Mrs. Bogoslawsky and
daughter will go to Myrtle Beach.
Mrs. Alan Rosenthal and
daughters, Michele and Amy, are
spending a few weeks with Mrs.
Rosenthal’s parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Alabaster and family in Memphis,
Tenn.
A fashion show was held last
week at the Y. M. H. A. Pool
with the “Y” models participat
ing.
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Rocamor
and daughter Hermine spent a
few days visiting Mrs. Rocamo-
ro’s mother, Mrs. Mollie Shmer-
ling and family. They will later
vacation in Florida.
Mrs. Jennie Lubow is visiting
relatives and friends in New York
City.
The JWV Post 531 recently gave
a party for oyer 300 patients of
Lenwood Hospital. The party was
the first in a proposed monthly
series.
Nathan Persky of Aiken was
named chairman of the Aiken
Jewish Welfare Board. Mr. Per
sky who is president of the Aiken
Synagogue was voted “Man of
the year” last year by the Aiken
Chamber of Commerce.
Miss Rita Shmerling and Abe
Rice of Augusta were in Atlanta
earlier this week for the jew
elry show.
Mr. and Mrs. David Rubenstein
will be leaving soon for Atlantic
City Beach. Enroute they will
visit their daughter Mrs. Charles
J. Moss, Mr. Moss and his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Moss. Their
daughter, Mrs. Charles Moss will
join them in the trip to Atlantic
City where they will vacation at
the beach cottage of another
daughter, Mrs. Donald Goodwin.
Their third daughter, Mrs. Mon
roe Simon of Beaver Falls, Pa.
will also join the family party.
The Rubensteins will spend the
greater part of the summer in
Atlantic City.
Mr. and Mrs. Benedict Gold
berg are visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Benedict Goldberg Jr. and chil
dren, John and Lauren, in Los
Angeles.

Rabbi Levi Now
At Charlotte Temple
SPRINGFIELD — Rabbi Elie-
zer A. Levi, of Temple Beth El
here, has begun his duties as
spiritual leader of Temple Beth
Israel in Charlotte, N. C.
The first Jewish chaplain to
be assigned to overseas duty dur
ing World War II, he has been
in Springfield since 1950. He is
on the executive council of the
Rabbinical Assembly of America,
an organization of Conservative
Rabbis.
During his tenure at Temple
Beth El the temple membership
has grown from 325 to 600 fami
lies, the Sunday school enroll
ment has increased from 180 to
300 and a modernistic synagogue
designed by Percival Goodman,
which attracted national atten
tion, has been erected on Dickin
son Street.
Rabbi Levi was born in To
ronto, attended the University of
Toronto, City College of New York
and the Jewish Theological Se
minary.
When World War II broke out,
Rabbi Levi was overseas. He en-

the exhibition buildings.

for those who wish them. Mr. Li-
bowsky announced.
He added that proceeds from the
barbecue support the group’s
year-long activities in behalf of
veterans — mostly for those who
are hospitalized or in need.

He is married to the former
Eva Lunenfield of Ontario, and
they 'have three children, a son,
Isaac, who this year receives his
doctor of philosophy degree from
Columbia University; a son David
who this year received his mast
er’s degree in business adminis
tration from Harvard School of
Business Administration; and a
daughter Mina, in the 10th grade
at Classical High School.
