tion day for children’s hobby
groups and classes at the new
Atlanta Jewish Community Cen
ter. Registration periods are from
10 a.m. to 12 noon and from 2^
p.m. at the Center, 1745 Peach
tree Road, N. W.
Adult registration was held
Tuesday and Wednesday of this
past week. However, additional
registration for late adult appli
cants will begin Monday, Oct. J5,
and continue through the week.

Naturally Center members will be
given first consideration for
groups and classes.
Children’s activities include
creative dancing, Scouting, tram
poline, etc. Children will be
limited to no more than 2 week
day classes and 2 Sunday classes.
Adult activities include ball
room dancing, music appreciation,
ceramics, choral singing, Hebrew,
Jewish history and arts, basket
ball and volleyball for men, Slim
Gym classes for women, and
swimming instruction for both.
The above listed activities are
just a start as the new Center
moves into first gear. As the in
terests and needs of the members
develop, the Center plans to add:
an adult cultural series, Yiddish
speaking programs, a ‘‘Young
Marrieds” Club, film-forum se
ries, Sunday afternoon musicales,
a leaders’ workshop, public speak
ing classes, and many more.
Both youth and adult lounges
and game rooms will be open::
Monday through Thursday, 3:30
p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; evenings, 7 to
10 p.m.; Friday, 3:30 p.m. to 5
p.m.; Saturday, 7 to 11 p.m. and
Sunday, 1 to 9 p.m. The adult
lounge will also be open on Sun
day mornings.
Shearith Israel
Announces New
Study Groups
Three new “study and discus
sion” clubs are being formed at
the Shearith Israel.
The Sisterhood is sponsoring
a Women’s Bible Study Class,
which will meet at 1:30 p.m. on
alternate Tuesdays. The classes
will convene at the home of a
different member of the group
each time and will be under the
leadership of Rabbi Sydney K.
Mossman.
At 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morn
ings, the “Talis and Tefillin”
Group meet at the Educational
Building for morning prayers,
followed by a “bagel and lox”
breakfast. The group is composed
of Post-Bar Mitzvah boys and
adults. After breakfast, Rabbi
Mossman, assisted by Edward
Krick and Sol Tenenbaum, con
duct a Bible Class. A large num
ber of men and boys are making
a regular practice of attending
these meetings, which are part of
the Brotherhood program. Mrs.

at the Mayfair Club, at two p.m.

Mrs. Frank Garson, chairman
of the Sponsors Society of the
Atlanta Israel Bond Committee,
the group tendered the tea, has
announced that Orna Porat, who
has been hailed as "The First
Lady of the Israel Stage,” and
Mrs. Alexander Simson, Hadas-

Health Club at the new Atlanta
Jewish Community Center!
Joseph A. (Chief) Kennedy,
above, is a fabulous 60-year-old
with the mental vigor of a college
boy and about the same physical
vigor. Enlisting as a hospital ap
prentice in 1916, Kennedy rose
to Chief Pharmacist of the Naval
Hospital Corps in 1943, and re
tired with this rank after out
standing physical education ser
vice to the Navy.
A renowned boxer, gymnast,
wrestler, and tumbler, the Chief
was attached to the Navy Acad
emy’s physical education depart
ment from 1932-34 and served on
hospital ships, cargo ships, tend
ers, destroyers, submarines, cruis
ers, battleships, and aircraft car
riers as well as in Naval hos
pitals.
Author of many articles for
“Your Life,” “Opportunity Mag
azine,” “Catholic Digest,” and
“Science Digest,” he is perhaps
best known for his book “Relax

“Judaism and the Importance of
Living.” This will be divided in
