Atlanta Friends of Brandeis U.
To Hear Fine, Wien Oetober 21
Annual Atlanta dinner for the
Brandeis University will be held
at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at
the Standard Town & Country
Club, honoring the centennial of
the birth of Louis Dernbitz Bran
deis.
Principal speaker on the pro
gram honoring the former U. S.
Supreme Court Justice after
whom the University was named
will be Dr. Benjamin Fine, edu
cation editor of the New York
Times.
Dr. Fine, widely acclaimed in
the field of education ,won the
Pulitzer Prize for a series of ar
ticles on the teaching of Ameri
can history in schools and col
leges of New York.
Another speaker will be Law
rence A. Wien of New York City,
an outstanding attorney who is a
Fellow of Brandeis U. and a trus
tee of Norwalk (Conn.) Hospital.

The Ida Saul Chapter, BBG
314, held a Bermuda Cocktail
Party on August 30 for members
and prospective members.
Mrs. Harry Moure
GADSDEN—Mrs. Harry Moore,
widow of the late Harry Moore,
died October 7 in a Gadsden hos
pital after a brief illness. Funeral
services were held October 8 and
interment was in the Jewish Ce
metery here. Rabbi Harold Fine-
berg of Gadsden and Rabbi Abra
ham Feinstein of Chattanooga of
ficiated.
Surviving are four daughters,
Mrs. Felix Diamond, Chattanooga;
Mrs. I. M. Levinson, Rome; Mrs.
Frank Sachs, Bessemer, and Mrs.
Sol Siegel, Anderson, S. C.; two
sons, Leonard Moore, Carrollton,
and Norman Moore, Gadsden.
Twelve grandchildren also sur
vive.
Harry Coheh
Harry Cohen, 59, of Atlanta,
died October 9. Funeral services
were held October 10 at the chap
el of Henry M. Blanchard & Son.
Rabbi Harry H. Epstein officiated.
Interment was in Greenwood
Cemetery.
Mr. Cohen was a member of
the Ahavath Achim Synagogue.
He was a groceryman.
Surviving are “h i s wife; son,
Marshall Cohen, medical student
at Augusta; daughter Mrs. Jacob
Levitt of Atlanta; brother, Dave
Cohen of Columbus, and sister,
Mrs. Annie Janko of Atlanta.

vention to be held in Atlantic
City, October 21-23.
Miss Lynn Frank and Miss
Shirley Teper of Atlanta, who
have been touring Europe and
Israel during the past five months,
are expected to return to the
states on the Liberte, November
9.
Mr. and Mrs. Barney Schoen
berg of Atlanta, had as their
guests last week, Mrs. Schoen
berg’s father, Mr. S. Richman of
Beaufort, S, C., and sister and
brother-in-ffw, Mr. and Mrs. Sol
Cohen of Walterboro, S. C.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe I. Zimmerman
of Atlanta are flying to New York
Sunday, and will be at the St.
Mortiz Hotel during their stay.
Mrs. H. Kresses of Birming
ham, is visiting with her children,
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Birnbrey, in
Atlanta.
Friends of Morris (Maishie)
Cohen of Atlanta, who is at the
Georgia Baptist Hospital, will be
happy to learn that his condition
continues to improve.
Mrs. Pearl Friedman of Ramat
Gan, Israel, has been visiting her
sister, Mrs. J. Goldman of Atlanta,
for the past six months, after a
separation of thirty-f i v e years.
She is planning to leave Atlanta
for Israel the end of this month,
and Mrs. Goldman will accomp
any her to New York.
Many will remember Mrs.
Friedman’s daughter, Zipora, who
visited in Atlanta about eight
years ago and met and married
Norman Feinberg, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Dave Feinberg of Charleston,
and who are making their home
in Israel.
Friends of Mrs. Julian V. Boehm
will regret to learn that she is
confined to St. Joseph’s Infirmary
due to illness.
David Abramovitz of Toronto,
Canada is visiting ift Atlanta with
his daughter, Dr. Rose Lahman
and her husband, Harry Lahman.
Mr. and Mrs. Eli Grant of At
lanta have as their guests their
niece and nephew, Mrs. Hadassah
Israeli and her 18-year-old son
Oury. Mrs. Israeli moved to
Palestine about 22 years ago. She
is the daughter of Mr. Grant’s
sister and is currently visiting
relatives in Hartford, Boston and
Atlanta.

Benamy represented the Atlanta
ZOA District at the recent nation
al convention in Washington.
They were accompanied by their
wives.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Silverstein
are back in Augusta after a sen
timental journey to New York to
attend the marriage of the daugh
ter of the late Secretary of War
Robert P. Patterson.

valescing at home after a recent
operation, but is unable to have
visitors for the next few weeks.
