Joel-Gumble
Sue Joel, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Lyons Barnett Joel II of
Atlanta, became the bride of
Stanley K. Gumble, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Stanley L. Gumble of
Cincinnati, on October 14 at the
home of the bride’s parents on
Woodhaven Road. Rabbi Louis
Egelston of New York performed
the ceremony.
Stanley L. Gumble was his son’s
best man. Groomsmen were Sig
Guthmart and Lt. Lyons B. Joel
Jr., brother of the bride, of De
catur, Ill.
Dottie Ann Joel was her sister’s
maid of honor. Serving as matron
of honor was Mrs. Lyons B. Joel
Jr. and Bea Hirsch kept the bride’s
book.
A seated dinner followed the
ceremony.
The couple left on a wedding
trip to the Virgin Islands, Puerto
Rico, Jamaica and Haiti.
For the next three years, Lt.
Gumble will serve in the U. S.
Air Force.

SAVANNAH — Mr. and Mrs.
William Victor Miller of New
York City announce the engage
ment of their daughter, Nancy
Mann, to Stanley M. Stern, son
of Mrs. Milton Stern of Pelham
Manor, N. Y., and the, late Mr.
Stern.
Miss Miller is a graduate of
Dalton Schools and is a senior at
Vassar College. She is the grand
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Selig
Eichholz of Savannah and the
late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Miller
of Boston.
Mr. Stern was graduated from
Ohio State University and serv
ed with the United States Navy
during World War 11 and the
Korean conflict. He is the grand
son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Mosbacher of New’ York
and the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel
Stern of Island Pond, Vt. Mr.
Stern is in the real estate bus
iness.

Feldman Authors
Several Articles
Rabbi Emanuel Feldman, a
graduate of Ner Israel Seminary
in Baltimore, recently received
a public letter of commendation
from Herman Wouk for the re
view of ‘'Marjorie Morningstar”
which Rabbi Feldman recently
wrote.
Both the review and the letter
appeared in “Jewish Life” mag
azine, published by the Union
of Orthodox Jewish Congrega
tions.
Rabbi Feldman has just added
to his writings with an article in
the October 15 issue of “Congress
Weekly,” which has already
evoked much comment.
In addition to this, the current
issue of the “Rabbinical Council
Record” carries his articles on
the Ner Israel Yeshiva.
Rabbi Feldman is spiritual lead
er of Congregation Beth Jacob
in Atlanta, Ga. He is the son of
Rabbi and Mrs. Joseph H. Feld
man of Baltimore.
Irving Engel Named
Member of NY Group
On Loyalty Security
NEW YORK, (JTA) — Irving
M. Engel, president of the Ameri
can Jewish Committee, has been
appointed to a five-man Citizens
Committee on Loyalty Security
by Governor Averell Harriman
of New York. The Committee
headed by Whitelaw Reid, board
chairman of the New York Her
ald Tribune—will devise recom
mendations for revising state
laws aimed at keeping subversives
out of government.

The A. Z. A. chapter of Savan
nah presented B’nai B’rith last
week with a gavel on the oc
casion of the' organization’s 113th
anniversary, which was celebrat
ed at the Jewish Educational Al
liance.
Carl M. Hirsch, son of Mr. and
Mrs. David Hirsch, celebrated his
Bar Mitzvah last weekend.
At the recent B. B. Jacob Sis
terhood meeting, Mrs. A. I. Rosen
berg was named delegate to the
national conference of the
Women’s Branch of the Union of
Orthodox Jews which will be
held in Atlantic City.
Stanley C. Myers of Miami, na
tionally prominent Jewish com
munal leader led a panel discus
sion on the subject, “What is
the Jewish Community?” as a
feature of the annual meeting of
the Savannah Jewish Council this
week.
Don R. Wilson, a graduate of
the Central States College of Mas
sage, Eton, Ohio, has assumed
his duties as J. E. A. Health Club
Director.
Aubrey Wisberg, a former Sa-
vannahian, has completed his
twelfth independently produced
motion picture venture from a
screenplay of his own authorship,
“The Women of Pitcairn Island,”
a cinemascope production which
will be released during the
Christmas'holiday by Twentieth
Century-Fox.
A drivers’ school for teen-agers
has been organized at the J.E.A.
Mrs. Meyer W. Tenenbaum will
serve as chairman of the Women’s
City Area division for the 1956-
57 United Community Appeal.
She will direct the activities of
approximately 3 0 0 volunteer
workers in the 45-agency cam
paign which has a goal of $803,
000.
Larry Martin, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry A. Martin, recently
celebrated h i s Bar Mitzvah at
the Agudath Achim Synagogue.
Jewish Home Tells
Open House Details
The fifth annual Open House
will be held at the Jewish Home
on Sunday, Nov. 18, from 2 to 5
p.m., it has been announced by
Abe Goldstein, President.
At a recent meeting of the
Joint Committee on Volunteer
Services plans were made for
the Open House which is the
outstanding event in the life at
the Home. Mrs. E. M. Manning,
Chairman of the Joint Commit
tee, made the following assign
ments in preparation for the big
affair:

Polan and Mrs. Mendle Boorstin.
In charge of l’efreshments —
Mrs. J. M. Rosenfeld.
In charge of flowers — Mrs.
Jake Butler.
In charge of hostesses — Mrs.
Dave Alterman.

ments and in acting as hostesses.
