Deitch, with his brother, Ben, started their own Department Store business 38 years ago. The business was sold last September. Mr. Deitch was a 32nd degree Ma.fon and Shriner and was a member of the Heska Amuna Synagogue. Surviving are his wife, Ethel Goldberg Deitch, formerly of At lanta; sons, Nathan, Cincinnati, and Sydney, Quonset Point, R. I.; daughter, Mrs. Jay Lipson, Phila delphia; brother, Ben, Knoxville; sister, Mrs. Myra Sachs, Cinci nnati, and a brother-in-law, Jo seph L. Goldberg of Atlanta. Mrs. Beckie Seff Mrs. Beckie Seff of Atlanta died December 17 in Miami. Fu neral services were held Decem ber 19 in Blanchard’s Chapel. Rabbi Tobias Geffen officiated. Interment was in Greenwood Ce metery. The former Beckie O r 1 o w of Russia, Mrs. Seff was the widow of retired Griffin merchant Max R. Seff. She had been an Atlanta resident since 1925. She was a member of the Shearith Israel Congregation. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Fritz Witt and Miss Rose Seff, Atlanta; a son, Leon M. Seff, New York City, and a sister, Mrs. Annie Newman, Philadel phia. Octavus Meyer CAVANNAH — Octavus A. Meyer, (id, died December 12. Fu neral services were hold Decem ber 13 at Sipple’s Mortuary. In terment was in Laurel Grove Ce metery. Rabbi S. E. Starrels of ficiated. A native of Savannah, Mr. Mey er was well known in retail trade and in American Legion affairs. He wns a salesman for Kroskin’s Men’s Store. He was a past com mander of Chatham Post No. 36, American Legion, and a member of Temple Mickve Israel. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Annie Kitschner Meyer of Savan nah; three brothers, Philip Meyer, Savannah; Andrew Meyer, Jack sonville; and Fred Meyer, Atlanta; one sister, Mrs. Sophie Ledderer, New York City, and a number of nieces and nephews. Born in Russia, Mr. Rothenberg had lived in Atlanta perodieally for the past 50 years. He was a retired clothing merchant. He was a member of the Ahavath Achim Congregation. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Martin Hershberg and Mrs. Israel Wilen, Atlanta; a sister, Mrs. Barney Hurwitz, also of At lanta, and two brothers, Abe Rothenberg, Los Angeles, and Jack Rothenberg. Alex Levinson ROME — Alex Levinson died December 17. Funeral services were held December 19 in the chapel of Daniel Funeral Home. Interment was in the family lot of the Jewish cemetery hero. Rab bi Max Zucker officiated. Mr. Levinson was born in At lanta and moved to Rome in 1918. He had been affiliated with Le vinson Bros, for a number of years. Surviving are his wife; one son, Jimmy H. Levinson, Rome; one step-daughter, Miss Barbara Cannup, Rome; mother, Mrs. Dora A. Levinson, Rome; four sisters, Mrs. Rose Sacks, New Jersey; Mrs. Freida Euler, San Francisco; Miss Sarah Levinson, Rome, and Mrs. Bertha Sperber, Long Beach, Calif. Morris Berman BLAKELY, Ga. — Morris Ber man, 74. died December 13. Graveside services were hold De cember 15 in Dothan, Ala. A native of London, England, Mr. Berman had lived in Blakely for 54 years. He was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Dothan. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Fannie Jaffe Berman, Blakely; four daughters, Mrs. Barney Wynne, Blakely: Mrs. Joe Seitz and Mrs. Max Bergstein, both of Atlanta, and Mrs. Ben Smith of Vidalia; nine grandchildren and two sisters who live in England. Mrs. A. .1. Stine A native of New York, Mrs. Stine had been an Atlanta resi dent 20 years. She was the former Beth Rosengardt. wife of A. J. Stine, associated with Regen- stein’s. Mrs. Stine was a member of the Council of Jewish Women, Hadassah, the Mayfair Club, the Temple and Ahavath Achim Con gregation. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Jules and -Herbert C. Stine, Atlanta; her mother, Mrs. Esther Rosengardt, New York, and three sisters, Mrs. Nathan Kroll, Mrs. Charles Herman and Mrs. Ida Buchwald, all of New York. Miss Ziprah Mendes SAVANNAH — Miss Ziprah Mendes, 71, who retired in 1956 after teaching in Chatham coun ty schools for 50 years, was killed by a hit-and-run auto driver December 1. Funeral services were held De cember 3 at the Mickve Israel Synagogue. Rabbi Solomon E. Starrels officiated. Interment was in Laurel Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Esther H. Sklansky SAVANNAH—Funeral services for Mrs. Esther Hirsch Sklansky, 57, of Daytona Beach, who died there Nov. 28, were held Nov. 29 at Sipple’s Mortuary. Rabbi A. I. Rosenberg and Cantor Morde- cai Adler officiated. Interment was in Bonaventure Cemetery. Surviving are her husband, Hyman Sklansky of Daytona; five sisters, Mrs. Julius Kahn, Mrs. Nathan B. Marcus, Mrs. Louis Wolson, all of Savannah; Mrs. David Primock, Durango, Colo., Mrs. Samuel Rocklin, Lancaster, Pa. two brothers, Charles Hirsch, Savannah. Sol Hirsch, Los Ange les, Calif. Franco Unveiling Mr. and Mrs. Sam Franco in vite friends and relatives to at tend the unveiling ceremonies in memory of their daughter Miss Rachel S. Franco on Sunday, De cember 29, at 11:00 a.m., at Green wood Cemetery. Mr. Solomon Alhadeff and Mr. Ruben Piha will officiate. Max Permison SAVANNAH—Funeral services for Max Permison, who died No vember 22, were held November 25 at Sipple’s Mortuary conducted by Rabbi A. I. Rosenberg and Cantor Mordecai Adler. Interment was in Bonaventure Cemetery. Morris Cohen Morris Cohen, 78, of Atlanta, died December 12. Funeral ser vices were held December 13 at Blanchard’s Chapel, Rabbi Harry H. Epstein, Rabbi Tobias Geffen and Cantor Joseph Schwartzman officiated. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery. A native of Russia, Mr. Cohen had lived in Atlanta 46 years. He was a private teacher of Hebrew. He was a member of Ahavath Achim Congregation. Joseph Edison BROOKLYN — Joseph Edison of 960 E. 4th St., Brooklyn, died December 12. Funeral services and interment were held Decem ber 12 in New’ York. Rabbi Car lin officiated. Mr. Edison was a member of the Ahavath Achim Synagogue in Brooklyn and a member of the Elizavetgrad Benevolent Associa tion which he served as secretary and hospitaler for over thirty years. Surviving are his wife .Mrs. Clara Edison; daughters, Mrs. Robert Travis, Atlanta; Mrs. Sid ney Grossman, Mrs. Jack Gold stein, both of New York and son, Matty Edison, Philadelphia; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
