A review of the works of
Marc Chagall will highlight an
arts program at the Atlanta Jew
ish Community Center from
10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday,
Feb. 11, under sponsorship of
the Contemporary Jewish Af
fairs Committee of the National
Council of Jewish Women.
Displaying several facets of
Jewish expression including mus
ic, painting and cooking, open to
the public will highlight the pro
gram.

by Chagall and Jacob Alt, original
etchings by Saul Raskin, a prayer
book illustrated by Chagall and
several pieces by Perli Pelzig,
Israeli artist now residing in At
lanta while executing mosaic
and decorative commissions.

the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra,

Popkin Brothers at
Camping Meet
The co-founders and directors
of Blue Star Camps in Henderson
ville, N. C., Herman and Harry
Popkin of Atlanta, Ga., are at
tending the convention of the
American Camping Association in
St. Paul, Minn, from Feb. 4-8.
They will join some 3,000
camping leaders from throughout
the United States and Canada in
the four-day national conference
which has as its theme, “Camp
ing in the Fast Changing World.”
During the St. Paul conference
they will attend a meeting of all
Regional steering committees for
the 1959 regional conferences to
take place in several different
places throughout the country
next year. The Popkin brothers
are co-chairmen of the Region
IV, American Camping Associa
tion’s 1959 convention to be held
in March in Asheville, N. C. for
the eleven states in the South-
ast.

Jewish Community Center.

on the subject of “Prejudice in
Children.” A general discussion
will follow.
Temple Sisterhood
Slate Interfaith
Institute Feb. 7
The annual interfaith institute
conducted by the Temple Sister
hood will be held Friday, Feb. 7,
beginning at 10:30 a.m. with
Rabbi Jacob M. Rothschild, spirit
ual leader of the Temple, con
ducting the program on the
topic, “What Christians Ask
About Jews.”
Open to the general public, the
institute will be held in the
Temple sanctuary on Peachtree
Road and will be followed at
noon with a coffee break.
Officers of the Sisterhood, ex
tend a cordial invitation to
friends and neighbors to take
part in the institute and to feel
free to attend and to ask ques
tions.

vations and no charge is neces
sary. We welcome all of our
friends from the various churches
in the community and together
with our own members we plan
a stimulating and interesting

Hebrew Academy
Lists Workers For
Membership Drive
Fifty workers in the annual
sustaining family membership
drive for 1,900 members for the
Atlanta Hebrew Academy were
announced this week by the gen
eral chairman of the drive, Dr.
Sidney Q. Janus who also called
for a special report meeting of
all workers on Tuesday, Feb. 11
as one of the highlights of the
Academy’s monthly Parent
Teachers Association meeting.

In announcing plans for the
February meeting of the PTA,
Mrs. Orentlicher, president, point
ed out that the meeting will be
gin at 8:15 p.m. and will be held
in the school building of the
Shearith Israel Synagogue or
University. Other fetureas of the
meeting will include a report
from the president of the Aca
demy, Dr. Irving Greenberg, as
to the progress of the school and
its future plans for 1958-59. Irv
ing Freed is director of the com
munity-sponsored private institu
tion.

S. I. Men, Women
Shearith Israel Brotherhood
and Sisterhood will hold a joint
meeting at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb.
9, when a program on “Cavalcade
of Music” will be presented.

Two Other New
Yorkers Slated For
Rogosin Dinner
Names of two additional promi
nent guests who will be in At
lanta for the testimonial dinner
honoring Israel Rogosin, New
York industrialist and philanthro
pist, were announced this week.
Dr. Irving Greenberg, president
of the Atlanta Hebrew Academy,
which is sponsoring the testimon
ial, said that Mr. Rogosin will be
accompanied to Atlanta by Judge
A. David Benjamin, Justice of
the Supreme Court of New York,
and Samuel Lemberg, leading fi
nancier and realtor of New York.
Ben J. Massell, Atlanta realtor
and philanthropist, will chair the
dinner which will be attended by
many leading citizens of Atlanta.
To begin at 7 p.m., the dinner
will be open to the general pub
lic and will honor the 70-year-old
head of Beaunit Mills, Inc., who
included the Hebrew Academy
among the educational institu
tions sharing in his $4,000,000
gift in stock in his new enterprise
—a $20,000,000 rayon plant in
Israel.

which includes Mrs. Sam Alter
man and Mrs. Hyman Wolson.

Set Reorganization
Meeting Feb. 10
Nomination of officers for the
Atlanta Zionist District will be
one of the features of the organ
ization’s meeting at 8:15 p.m.,
Monday, Feb. 10 at the Jewish
Community Center.
Announcement of plans for the
meeting, which will also feature
a report on the state of Israel
for 1957 by Miss Hava Bitan,
chancellor of the Israeli consulate
in Atlanta, was made by Ben
Golden, presdent.
In addition to the film show
ing the progress of the new
democratic state during the past
nine years, the program will also
highlight Israel’s economic and
political growth and development
since its founding ten years ago
this May.
“We extend a cordial invita
tion to the general public and
ZOA members to join with us
next Monday for our reorganiza
tion meeting,” Mr. Golden stated.
Pioneer Women 1
Meeting Feb. 12
Mrs. Julian Jacobs, Atlanta
pianist and music teacher, has
arranged a musical program for
the meeting of Pioneer Women
Club 1 at 2 p.m. Wednesday,
Feb. 12, at the Jewish Commun
ity Center.
Mrs. Jacobs attended the Uni
versity of Syracuse and Emory
piano here. Door prizes will be
given. Members and friends are
invited.

For J. Grossinger
Mrs. Jennie Grossinger, inter
nationally known hotel figure
and philanthropist, will be honor-
guest at a reception at 8:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Standard
Town & Country Club.
Mrs. Grossinger will be honor
ed as “godmother of the City of
Hope” and guest of the Atlanta
City of Hope Auxiliary.
She herself donated a complete
kitchen unit costing $250,000 to
the non-sectarian institution at
Duatte, Calif.
