en are sharing responsibility for
guiding the Southeastern Region
al Conference of Hadassah in
Atlanta February 24-26, accord
ing to Mrs. David Levin, presi
dent.
Mrs. Levin has announced the
departmentalizing of conference
planning under Mrs. Morris
Frank and Mrs. Israel Shapiro,
conference coordinators, and Mrs.
Philip Schwartz and Mrs. Robert
Travis, conference chairmen. All
four are widely known for their
active participation in major
community activities.
Mrs. Shapiro reported that the
“conference plans are progress
ing rapidly, with great interest
already being shown in the stimu
lating sessions that have been
planned,” Mrs. Shapiro reported
at a meeting held this week at
the home of Mrs. Dave Alter-
man.
Mrs. Harold Karp, transporta
tion chairman, announced that
cars marked “Hadassah” will
transport out-of-town delegates
and visitors to and from all
functions not held in the Briar-
cliff Hotel, which is serving as
convention headquarters. A spe
cial bus has been engaged to pick
up the delegates at Rich’s after
the Hadassah-inspired Fashion
show and tea on Wednesday,
Feb. 26.
Mrs. Charles Bernath and Mrs.
Ben Golden, hospitality chair
men, reported on the plans to
welcome delegates, ranging from
valuable gifts to delicious fruit
baskets in each room.
Mrs. Frank told the Tuesday
meeting about the sponsor sys
tem, functioning under Mrs.
Milton Saul and her committee
women who will personalize the
welcoming of each individual
delegate.
Mrs. L. J. Levitas and Mrs. E.
M. Manning, announced that the
program they have edited has

Public Invited To Open Forum Feb. 24
During Hadassah Parley
The public is invited to join
delegates and guests of the South
east Hadassah Regional Confer
ence for the open forum on Israel
and the Middle East set for 8:30
p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at the
Atlanta Jewish Community Cen
ter.
The panel will present Nahum
Astar, Israeli Consul; Rev. Har
rison McMains, executive direc
tor, Atlanta Christian Council;
Glenn Rainey, Georgia Tech pro
fessor, and Mrs. D. Leonard Co
hen, national Hadassah vice
president. Mrs. Joseph Wilensky
of Savannah, a former South
eastern president, will serve as
moderator.
Mr. Astar, who guides Israel’s
consular affairs for the entire
Southern states with headquar
ters in Atlanta, settled in Pale
stine in 1933. He joined the Israel
Ministry for Foreign Affairs in
1948 and was appointed vice
consul in Chicago. In 1956, he
came to Atlanta.
Originally from Baltimore, Rev.
McMains came to First Christian
Church in Atlanta in 1944. He
serves as board member for a
number of outstanding organiza
tions including Atlanta Boys’
Club, Community Chest, Muscu
lar Dystrophy, George Council
on Human Relations, Conference
of Christians and Jews. He is a
past president of the Christian
Council.
Mr. Rainey has been teaching
English and public speaking at
Tech since his graduation from
Emory in 1929. Among his off-
campus activities are serving as
secretary of the YMCA board
and a member of the Christian

A pre-conference rally for com
mittees, chairmen, delegates and
interested members has been
scheduled by Hadassah at 10:30
a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the
Atlanta Jewish Community Cen
ter.
Mrs. David Levin, president of
the Southeastern Region of Ha
dassah, whose forthcoming con
ference will take place February
24, 25 and 26, announced that
“everyone interested is urged to
attend the rally.
The two-hour meeting will
culminate the pre-conference ac
tions and give the community an
opportunity to be “in the know,”
Mrs. Levin stated.
Tickets will be available to the
“Heart of Hadassah” Luncheon,
Monday, Feb. 24, at the Progress
ive Club, at which Mrs. D. Leon
ard Cohen, national vice presi
dent and chairman of the Medi
cal Center, will be the principal
speaker.
Tickets will also be available
for the closing banquet on Wed
nesday, Feb. 26, at the Progress
ive Club. Mrs. Moses P. Epstein,
known and beloved as “Hadas-
sah’s Judith,” will speak.
Mr. Morris Frank, conference
coordinator, added “this rally
will be a real humdinger, com
plete with ‘rah rah gals’ and all
the hoop-da-la.’ If you want to
know what is going on about the
conference, be at the Center
Tuesday 18.”

Temple Couples Club
To Hear McMains
Rev. Harrison McMains will be
the featured speaker at the Sab
bath Forum, which will be con
ducted by the Temple Couples
Club, Friday evening, Feb. 14.
Reverend McMains, who is
executive director of the Chris
tian Council of Atlanta, will
speak on the topic, “Know Your
Christian Neighbor.”
This is the fifth of the current
series of Sabbath Forums spon
sored by the Couples Club, and,
as usual, it will be held immedi
ately following Sabbath evening
services at 8. Dr. Morris Jacobs
and Mr. Malvin Mayer will as
sist Rabbi Jacob M. Rothschild in
the service in observance of the
annual Temple Couples Club
Sabbath.
