WOMEN’S DIVISION

Brandeis University, and Senior
Hadassah. Mrs. Friedman has
worked on the Welfare Fund for
a number of years and has head
ed several of the divisions.
“Mrs. Howard follows in the
footsteps of her father, the late
Frank Garson, who established an
outstanding and never-to-be-for
gotten record as a community
leader. She also follows the road
of leadership traveled by her
mother who has rendered distin
guished service for many years
in the Welfare Fund and other
community undertakings. In the
work of the Atlanta Jewish Com
munity, Mr. and Mrs. Howard
have set mutual patterns of ac
tivity and leadership. Mrs. How
ard in her own right has been
active in every division of the
Welfare Fund. For a number of
years she was one of the heads
of the CoverAll Division, which
annually covers the city in be
half of the Womens Division of
the Welfare Fund. Mrs. Howard
is active in the Parents Teachers
Association and has served on
the boards of many organizations.
She is currently president of the
Atlanta Chapter of the National
Womens Committee of Brandeis
University.
“As one of the chairman of
the Women’s Division in the 1958
campaign Mrs. Harold Marcus
will give a repeat performance.
She has previously served in this
capacity in an earlier year. Mrs.
Marcus has also served as Presi
dent of the Atlanta Section of
the National Council of Jewish
Women, is a past president of the
ELITE
Atlanta C-.apatcr of the Na
tional Women’s Committee of
Brandeis University, and is now
a member of the National Board
of the Women's Committee of
Brandeis University. She is a
vice president of the Atlanta
Jewish Community Council, a
vice president of the Jewish
Social Service Federation of At
lanta, a vice president of the
Atlanta Jewish Welfare Boards
Armed Services Committee.
“Mrs. Marcus is also a member
of the Board of the Jewish Chil
dren Service, one of the Hadas
sah groups, the Temple Sister
hood, the Bureau of Jewish Edu
cation and a committee on the
Jewish Family and Children s
Bureau. She has served in all
ranks of the Women’s Division
of the Welfare Fund—from Pri
vate to General.
“Atlanta has had a Women’s
Division almost since the incep
tion of the Welfare Fund and this
division has played an important
part in every campaign. The
Women of Atlanta have raised
approximately 15 to 16% of the
total funds—in plus giving. With
three such experienced knowl
edgeable campaigners, the lead
ership of the Women’s Division
is indeed in good hands in 1958.
In announcing the acceptance
of the roles of leadership in the
Women’s Division, the new
chairmen stated:
“Women, more so than men,
are concerned with the wel
fare of people. The Jews of
Israel, Poland, North Africa,
Egypt,—aged men and women in
the Malben Institutions in Israel,
