Kahn Award, Chasin Address
To Feature JWV Banquet Sunday

The public is invited to the
annual commander’s banquet by
Post 112, Jewish War Veterans,
featuring a talk by Ben Chasin,
national commander, and the
“outstanding citizen award” to
Edward M. Kahn for his “untir
ing efforts in behalf of the Jew
ish Community of Atlanta.”
The banquet will take place at
6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at
the Progressive Club.
The Tokye Trio will furnish
music for the dance which is to
follow the banquet program.
The evening will also mark the
climax of the Fourth Region of
the Jewish War Veterans which
will meet in Atlanta during the
weekend.
Reservations can be secured by
calling Phil Teper, day or night,
at Jackson 3-3902. Tickets are
$3.50 a person, which includes
dinner and dancing.
Mr. Kahn’s selection is a tri
bute to his long service in At
lanta, extending over more than
a quarter century, according to
Alfred Schwartz, commander. Mr.
Kahn is currently the executive
director of the Jewish Federa
tion for Social Service, the Jew
ish Community Council and the
Jewish Welfare Fund.
National Commander Chasin, a
native of New York, has been
practicing law in New York, his
native city, since 1932. He also
practices before the Immigration

EDWARD KAHN
and Naturalization Service and
Immigration Board of Appeals
in Washington.
In March of 1942, he entered
military service as a private.
That same year, he was commis
sioned a second lieutenant. He
served 27 months in the South
Pacific where he saw Combat
with the 33rd Infantry Division
on New Guinea, Dutch East In
dies and the Philippines. He re
ceived the Bronze Star Medal
during the Philippine campaign
at Luzon and also holds the Com
bat Infantry Badge. Separated
from active service with the rank
of captain, he joined the active
reserve and is now a lieutenant-
colonel, commanding the 2nd Bat
talion, 306th Infantry, 77th In
fantry Division.
He has been active in the Jew
ish War Veterans since 1945 and
has held nearly every office
with his JWV post, department
as well as numerous national of
fices before his election.

"Fathers and Kids"
“Father and Kids Night” will
be sponsored by Beth Jacob
Men’s Club at 7:30 p.m. Wednes
day, Feb. 26, at the Synagogue
Social Hall.
A feature of the program will
be showing of films of “1957
World Series.” The public is in
vited. Refreshments will be
served.

Buchsbaum announces the en
gagement of her daughter, Glo
ria Merle, to Leonard Jacobs.
Mr. Jacobs is the son of Mr. and
Mrs Joseph Jacobs of Atlanta.
Miss Buchsbam’s father is the
late Frank Buchsbaum.
Miss Buchsbaum attended the
University of Miami at Coral
Gables.
Mr. Jacobs is a graduate of
the University of Georgia where
he received a B.A. degree in
business administration. He was
a member of Tau Epsilon Phi
fraternity, of which he was
bursar for two years.
The wedding is planned for
April 20.

Max Morris announces the en
gagement of his granddaughter,
Maxine Morris, to Robert Rubel
Propp, son of Mrs. Moe H. Propp
of Corinth, Miss., and the late
Mr. Propp.
Miss Morris was graduated
with honors from Westminster
Schools, where she was a mem
ber of Rabun Gap Nacoochee and
Tallulah Falls and Pi Sigma Kap
pa. She attended Emory Univer
sity, where she was a member
of Delta Sigma Epsilon social
club. In March she will receive
her degree in psychology.
Mr Propp was graduated from
Georgia Tech, where he was a
member of Phi Epsilon Pi, Phi
Kappa Phi, Eta Kappa Nu, Tau
Beta Pi, and the Institute of
Electrical Engineers. He is work
ing toward his master’s degree
at Georgia Tech and is employed
by the Tech Research Station.
The wedding will take place
at the Temple on March 15.

City of Hope Auxiliary will meet
