U. of GA. Report By Sandy Isenberg
ATHENS
The University raised a total
of $5,700 this year for the March
of Dimes, only $400 short of
last year’s all-time American
record, set by the University of
Georgia.
Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity was
the campus organization raising
the most funds with a total of
$3,000. Runner-up was Alpha
Epsilon Pi fraternity which raised
$1,700.
Both organizations were pre
sented awards at the annual
President’s Ball held on Febru
ary 8, along with Reed Hall, the
dormitory making the largest
contribution of all dormitories on
campus, a total of $150.
Receiving framed March of
Dimes certificates of apprecia
tion from National Foundation
for Infantile Paralysis as being
the outstanding drive leaders
were Jerry Jacobson, of Way-
cross, TEPhi; Sam Goodrich of
Sandersville, AEPi; and Jake
Behr, president of Alpha Phi
Omega service fraternity which
directed the campus drive, from
LaGrange and a member of Phi
Epsilon Pi fraternity.
“Hats off’ should go to the
men of these organizations and
their tremendous work for this
worthwhile cause. It’s a feather in
their caps that can be worn with
great pride and admiration.

large, Betty Behr, LaGrange, Ga.
On the sorority scene, Delta
Phi Epsilon elected new officers
for the year 1958-59. Newly

Anyone entering the DPhiE
house and going into the T.V.
room, would notice a picture of
a small girl on top of the T.V.
set. Her name is Edith Grundman
of France. She is the new
“daughter” of Psi chapter and
they are mighty proud.
Edith was born in Strabourg.
She has a brother Joseph, a sis
ter Doris and a twin sister Rose-
Marie. Her parents came from
Poland to France in order to
escape Communist persecution,
and they became French by
naturalization. The family led a
normal, happy life until April 7,
1955, when the mother died af
ter an operation.
Although the father is not too
well, he works as a salesman in
various market places, but his
earnings are very meager and
it was impossible for him to pro
vide for all of the children. His
only alternative was to place the
three younger children in a
Jewish orphanage . . . the eldest
daughter remaining at home to
help the father with his work
and look after him.
Through the PLAN program,
the DPhiE’s learned of Edith,
and are providing her with the
comforts every little girl would
like to have. The orphanage is
a private one, only helped by
public charity which cannot con
tribute enough to provide all the
TOWN
needs of a growing child.
By means of letters, cards,
packages, and money, the DPhi
E’s hope to make the light in the
eyes of their nine-year-old
daughter shine, just as the faces
of each of her “foster parents”
do when someone mentions the
picture of Edith on top of their
T.V. set.
