p.m., at Greenwood Cemetery.

HERMAN HARRIS
Herman Barris, 75 of Brook-
haven, Atlanta, died Feb, 21.
Funeral services were held Feb.
23 in Blanchard’s Chapel. Rabbi
Jacob Rothschild officiated.
Born in Detroit, Mr. Barris was
an Atlanta resident four years.
He was a retired City of Chicago
employee.
.Surviving are Ns wife, the
former Essie Gavron of Buford;
two sons, William L. Barris, St.
Louis; Robert I. Barris, Atlanta;
a brother, Mark Barris, Cleve
land, and two sisters, Mrs. A.
Rosenbaum, Cincinnati and Mrs.
Nathan Marks, Detroit.

AUGUSTA John Jay Cohen,
Sr., 83, died February 18. Funer
al services were held February
21 at Platt’s Chapel.
Mr. Cohen was an insurance
agent for a number of years.
Surviving are his wife; daugh
ter, Mrs. Lawrence Ben way,
Crestwood, N. Y.; sons, John
Jay Cohen, Jr., of Atlantn and
C. Henry Cohen, Spartanburg;
a sister, Miss Julia R. Cohen,
Columbia and a brother, George
Russell, Spokane, Wash.

Louis S. Sohn Sr., 70, of At
lanta, died February 24. Grave
side services were held February
25 at Crest I.awn Memorial
Park. Rabbi Jacob Roshschild
officiated.
Born in Buffalo, N. Y., Mr.
Sohn entered the cotton waste
business in St. Louis, later go
ing to Baltimore. He had been
an Atlanta resident since 1935.
Mr Sohn was a member of the
Temple and the Standard Town
and Country Club.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Celeste Hirschberg of St.
Louis; a son, s. L. Sohn Jr.,
Marietta; sister, Mrs. J. Stein
beck, Buffalo, and a brother,
Maurice I. Sohn, New York.

HARRY VIGODSKY
NEWBERRY, S. C. — Harry
Vigodsky, 64, died February 16.
Funeral services were held Feb.
17 from the Chapel of McCormick
Funeral Home in Columbia. Rab
bi Karesh G. Schecater officiated.
Interment was in the Hebrew
Benevolent Cemetery in Colum
bia.
Mr Vigodsky was born in Po
land, the son of the late Elliott
Taylor and Jennie Brimber Vi-
godsky. He was a retired business
man. He was a member of the
Masonic Shrine and American
Legion Post 24 of Newberry.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Mollie Quatinetze Vigodsky; a
son, Frederick Vigodsky of
Grainesville, Fla.; a daughter,
Mrs. Leroy (Lejeune) Gross of
Asheville, N. C.; a brother, Joe
Vigodsky of Greenville, S. C.,
and four grand-children.
BEN KAPLAN
Ben Kaplan, 73, of Tulsa, form
erly of Atlanta, died F’eb. 20.
Funeral services and interment
were held in Tulsa.
Born iti Poland, Mr. Kaplan
came to the United States as a
child. He moved from Atlanta
to Tulsa about 33 years ago. He
was a tailor.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Nellie Kaplan; a sister, Mrs. H.
Baranovity and a brother, Chas.
Kaplan, both of Atlanta.
LEO R. KOLANSKY
Leo Richard Kolansky, 41, of
Atlanta, died February 19. Fu
neral services were held Febru
ary 20 in Blanchard’s Chapel.
Rabbi Harry H. Epstein officiat
ed. Interment was in Greenwood
Cemetery.
Born in Carbondale, Pa.. Mr.
Kolansky had lived in Atlanta
about 20 years. He was an auto
mobile dealer. He was a member
of the American Legion, a vet
eran of World War II and a
member of Ahavath Achim Con
gregation.
Surviving are bis wife, the
former Mon/.ua Sanders of Rex;
daughter, Miss Rebecca Joy Ko
lansky, Atlanta; father, Samuel
Kolansky, Scranton; two sisters,
Mrs. Sam Kahn, Scranton; Mrs.
Mert Flannery, Cohoes, N. Y.,
and four brothers, Simon Kol
ansky, Carbondale; Morris Kolan
sky, Washington; Abe Kolansky,
Springfield, Md., and Art Kolan
sky, Norma, N. J.
MAX LEVINE
Max Levine, 72, of Atlanta,
died Feb. 21. Funeral services
were held Feb. 23 in Blanchard’s
Chapel. Rabbi Sydney K. Moss-
man officiated. Interment was in
Greenwood Cemetery.
Born in Poland, Mr. Levine had
lived in Atlanta 12 years. He was
a tailor with Sam Cohen Tailor,
Incorporated.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Mrs. Yetta Scvra; two
sons, Ralph Serra, Columbus;
Eugene H. Serra, Atlanta, and a
sister, Mrs. I. Friedlander, De
troit.
MRS. C. C. SCHWARTZ
Mrs. Celia Cohen Schwartz, 88,
of Atlanta died February 12.
Private funeral services were
held February 14 in Westview
Abbey. Rabbi Jacob Rothschild
officiated. Interment was in the
Abbey.
Born in Bridgeport, Mrs. Sch
wartz made her home in Sum
ter, S. C., after her marriage,
until moving to Atlanta 30 years
ago. She was the widow of
Charles C. Schwartz. She was a
member of the Temple and its
Sisterhood, the Council of Jewish
Women and the Brandeis Wom
en’s Club.
Surviving are a grandaughter,
Mrs. Herbert B. Cohen, Atlanta;
grandson, Charles S. Aronstam,
Atherton, Calif., and a son-
in-law, Aaron Aronstam, Atlan
ta.

Councillor Robert Briscoe of
Ireland, who was Dublin’s first
Jewish Lord Mayor, arrived in
the United States this week to
visit communities in many parts
of the country for the Israel Bond
drive
The Israel Bond campaign has
set a minimum goal of $75,000,000
this year for industrial and agri
cultural development, construc
tion of roads, harbors and rail
ways and the exploitation of
natural resources.
Mr. Briscoe’s first meeting for
Israel Bonds during his present
visit to the United States will be
in Gary, Ind. on March 2. His
tour for Israel Bonds will take
him to communities in the Mid-
West, the South, and the Eastern

Jewish Agency Now
Has New Name
The JEWISH AGENCY FOR
PALESTINE has changed its
name to JEWISH AGENCY FOR
ISRAEL, it has been announced
by Mrs. Rose L. Halprin, acting
chairman of the New York Ex
ecutive of the Agency.
The Jewish Agency, major
beneficiary of the United Jew
ish Appeal is the central philan
thropic organization responsible
for the immigration, absorption
and agricultural settlement of
new immigrants in Israel.
Mr8. Mossman Tells
Title for Book Review
“Kilometer 95” has been an
nounced as the title of the book
which Mrs. Sydney K. Mossman
will review as the second in the
series sponsored by Shearith
Israel Sisterhood.
Written by Herbert Russcol,
the novel deals with the new
Israel frontier, covering the Sinai
encounter
