Rosh Hashonah Greetings
From Officials Of
Atlanta Jewish Community
From: Atlanta Jewish Community Council
May I extend to each of you the greetings and best wishes
of the Atlanta Jewish Community Council for the New Year.
May the year 5719 bring to all of us the joy and satisfaction
of our working together for the good of the community.
The participation of all our Jewish organizations in the
work of the Community Council has been a continuing factor
in the progress and development of our community.
It is through cooperative endeavor that we can continue
to build strength and understanding in our voluntary asso
ciation.
It is my hope that the Community Council can make an
outstanding contribution to the further development of a
dynamic Jewish community, and a vital, creative total com
munity.
A'Happy New Year. —MORTON L. WEISS, President.
From: Atlanta Jewish Welfare Fund
On behalf of the officers and Board of the Atlanta Jew
ish Welfare Fund I want to extend to all the Jewish citizens
of Atlanta our best wishes for the new year. May 5719 be a
year of contentment, peace and prosperity for all our people.
Under the leadership of two young men, Sidney Feldman
and Nathan Lipton, the Welfare Fund has carried through
a successful 1958 campaign. This achievement was made
possible by the whole-hearted response and generous sup
port of the entire Jewish community.
Atlanta is proud of the record of giving it has established
during the past two decades in helping our fellow Jews the
world over. We are particularly happy at what American
Jewry has done in assisting with the upbuilding and develop
ment of Israel. And Atlanta has contributed its share and
met its responsibility.
The task is not finished. The need is a continuing one. I
know that we in Atlanta will measure up to the challenge
and to the opportunity given us to be of help.
May the New Year bless you with health and happiness,
and may you continue your good work in the community
on behalf of others.
—BEN J. MASSELL, President
From: Jewish Social Service Federation of
Atlanta
As President of the Jewish Social Service Federation I
am privileged to greet the readers of the Southern Israelite
on the occasion of the New Year. My fellow officers and
members of the Board join me in wishing you a good New
Year. May 5719 usher in a year of peace and happiness for
all mankind.
Atlanta has been fortunate in maintaining a favorable
balance in its economic development. However, this has not
meant that we were altogether free from situations requir
ing our assistance.
There are those among us who are unable to cope with
the strain and pressures of present-day life because of per
sonal inadequacy, illness, old age or other difficulties, and
require help from the community. There are those who have
emotional and psychological problems and require counsel
ing and advice to help them face the realities of life and to
overcome these roadblocks to normal living. To all of those
in need the Federation and its agencies offered help and
guidance—the best that the skill of professional workers,
experienced in the art of helping people, could give.
The Federation and its agencies will continue, in the
New Year, to serve the community as they have in the past
during more than half a century of its existence, mindful of
a deep concern for the welfare of the entire community.
At this season of the year I must draw your attention
to the fact that the Federation and its agencies are charter
members of the Community Chest now known as Community
Services. This is the time of the year when Community
Services launches its campaign for 1959. Give generously to
this campaign. Meet your civic obligation as a good citizen
and good neighbor.
