Jack Francos Mark Silver Wedding
Milestone on Thanksgiving Weekend
Thanksgiving Day holds spe
cial significance for the Jack D.
Francos of Atlanta.
They were married on Thanks
giving in 1933 and surrounded by
fifty members of their immediate
family they marked their twenty-
fifth wedding anniversary dur
ing the Thanksgiving weekend
just past.
On hand was their daughter
Betty Handmacher and her hus
band Burton, their daughter
Stella and her fiance Jack De
Leon, who will be married in
January, and their third child,
Jeannie, who recently marked
her “sweet sixteen” birthday.
The celebrants have two grand
children, Lynn Handmacher, four
and Albert, who is six months.
The guests also included Mrs.
Reina Franco, Mr. Franco’s 88-
year old mother, and a cousin,
Mrs. Sarah Yohai of Buenos
Aires, whom he had not seen for
48 years.
In a gracious, brief talk, Mr.
Franco, one of the proprietors of
Roxy’s Delicatessen, paid tribute
“First for being able to live in
this great country of ours, where
I have always enjoyed freedom,
have had a successful business,
and for always being in good
health. For getting up every
morning and praying to God and
thanking Him for making our
life worth while . . . It’s a pleas
ure and a joy to have and be
with such partners for thirty-five
years ...
“Secondly that I have been
very lucky in my life. I am
thankful that God gave me a
wonderful wife, fine children and
grandchildren. I count my bless
ings for having fine parents and
parents-in-law and other mem
bers of our families.
“I am thankful for everything
and every day of my life.”
The Francos were wed by
Rabbi Joseph Cohen in the Or
Ve S h a lorn Synagogue. Mrs.
Franco, the former Miss Cath
erine Benbenisty, was the first
native-born member of the At
lanta Spanish Jewish Congrega
tion to be married.
