Classes, Hobby Groups
Center Members may now en
roll in a varied program of cul
tural, educational and physical
education activities which offer
unlimited opportunity to devel
op new interests and make new
friends through creative and con
structive use of leisure hours.
Hobby classes, discussion
groups, lectures concerts, athlet
ic and swimming activities which
are included in this program pro
vide choices for each member
of the family with Mothers and
Dads receiving equal attention
along with children.
With the exception of Chil
dren’s activities which will take
place on Sundays all programs
are planned to start during the
week beginning Monday Octob
er 5. The deadline for registra
tion for these activities is Friday
September 25. Registration may
be made by mail, or, if members
prefer at the reception desk of
the Center.
Except for those activities de
signated as open to the public,
paid-up Center membership is
required of all who enroll. Since
the nature of many of these
courses requires that enrollment
be limited, it is advisable to reg
ister as early as possible. No
registrations will be taken over
the phone for any activity.
New Staff Members
Max Feldman, chairman of the
personnel committee has an
nounced these additions to the
AJCC staff Victor Copeland,
adult activities director; Mrs.
Helen “Skip” Seay, assistant
physical education director, and
Mrs. Girt Bossak, director of
children’s activities.
Victor Copeland, a native At
lantan, is a graduate of Tulane
University School of Social
Work. For the past two years he
has served on the professional
staff of the Denver Jewish Com
munity Centers. Victor is respon
sible for the planning and de
velopment of all adult activities.
Helen Seay, who served dur
ing the summer as the AJCC
swimming director, has assumed
full time responsibilities for the
aquatics program of the AJCC.
In addition, she will assist in
health and physical education
program in the gym for children
and adults. Skip is a trained Red
Cross Water Safety instructor
with many years of experience
in water safety and instruction.
She has won many honors as a
champion swimmer.
Girt Bossak will assume re
sponsibility for the development
of the children’s programs at the
AJCC on a part time basis. Dur
ing the summer, Girt served as
head counselor at Ajecomce Day
Camp, where she developed an
outstanding program. Girt has
had many years of training and
experience in youth activities
and in addition to her Center re
sponsibilities functions as the At
lanta Regional Director of the
BBYO program.
Bingo September 20
At Or Ve Shalom
The Or Ve Shalom Sisterhood
will sponsor a bingo evening at
7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at Or Ve
Shalom Social Hall.
Besides the bingo prizes, pre
sentations will be mqde of a
record player, watch, table
lamps, barbecue grill, serving
cart, electric perculator and
toaster.
Chairmen include Mrs. Josiah
Benator, Mrs. Milton Cranin and
Mrs. Leo Amiel. Refreshments
will be served.
Mrs. Albert Tenenbaum, Sis
terhood president, said the pub
lic is invited.
At the opening luncheon meet
ing of the Sisterhood on Septem
ber 16, membeA witnessed a
skit, “The Broad View,” written
by Mrs. Sarh Galanti, Mrs. Ben
nie Galanti and Mrs. Albert Ten
enbaum. The skit cast included
Mrs. Victor Maslia, Mrs. Josiah
Benator, Mrs. Solomon Beton,
Mrs. Asher Benator and Mrs.
Morris G. Galanti.
Ben-Dor to Teach
Evening Class at
Emory on Bible Life
Dr. Immanuel Ben-Dor, profes
sor of Biblical archaeology and
semitics at Emory University,
will teach an illustrated evening
course this fall on the cultural
history and daily life of the Bib
lical period. The classes, which
will be based largely on excava
tions, will meet from 8 to 9:30
p.m. each Tuesday for eight
weeks, beginning October 6.
The course is one of 23 to be
offered during the fall quarter
under Emory's non-credit pro
gram for adults, sponsored by
the Community Educational
Service.
Dr. Ben-Dor has served as
librarian of the Palestine Archa-
eologcal Museum and as assist
ant director of the Department of
Antiquities, State of Israel. He is
a veteran of archaeological ex
peditions to Palestine, Egypt,
Irag, and Italy, including spe
cial work at Jericho and Beth-
El. During the past year, he has
been active in the excavation
of the Etowah Mounds near
Cartersville, Ga. He was recent
ly elected a member of the ex
ecutive committee of the Atlan
ta Archaeological Society.
