Among the other educational
nstitutions benefitting was the
Hebrew Academy in Atlanta which
had been brought into the pic
ture through the aegis of Harry
Sunshine of Atlanta, Dick Ka
minsky of Fitzgerald and Judge
A. David Benjamin, New York
Supreme Court Justice.
Approximately $100,000 in Ro-
gosin’s Israel stock has been issued
to the Atlanta Hebrew Academy
through the generosity of holders
of Israel Bonds. This constitutes
an endowment for the school for
future revenue.
The Israel plant which develop
ed as a compromise was by no
means a tiny one. It represented
an investment of $3,000,000 in
property, building and machinery
by the time it was dedicated last
fall.
With the throwing of a switch
that put into action rayon spin
ning machines, Rogosin Industries
Ltd., factory in Ashdod, Israel,
sprung into operation.
“This venture embraces all the
combined know-how about syn
thetic fibers gathered since the
year 1900,” Mr. Rogosin declared
at the ceremony.
He explained that the 500,000
square feet plant is just the first
stage of the $21,000,000 enterprise
and constitutes only about one
seventh of the comphehensive
project. This first stage entails
the production, from semi-finish
ed materials, of some 3,000,000
pounds annually of rayon, nylon
and Tylex in the form of yarn or
fabric. With an additional invest
ment of some $500,000, this initial
production rate can be doubled.
Mr. Rogosin anticipated that
the second stage of the enterprise
—installation off 5,000 splindles to
produce some 2,000,000 pounds of
synthetic yarns for use in tjie
textile industry, would be com
pleted within a year from the
start.
The operation of the factory
after the second stage is com
pleted will then save Israel an
nually some $1,000,000, being the
difference between the present
cost of imported yarns and tire
fabrics and the cost of the raw
materials to be processed at the
factory.
Mr. Rogosin told The Southern
Israelite earlier in September
that the production of nylon would
begin about the first of the year.
He anticipated that another issue
of stock would soon be made
available.
Meanwhile, the value of the
Israel plant stock has risen con
siderable in value and there are
reports that a dividend will be
declared within a few months, a
considerable achievement for an
enterprise so shortly in existence.
It is anticipated that through
the non-profit Rogosin Founda
tion, stock may still be available
to educational institutions, though
the ratio might depend on the
current listing of the stock after
it is offered on the stock exchange.
The Rogosin stock then will have
ready cash value, depending on
the current quotation.
The Rogosin story of course is
unfinished. But what already has
been seen and done is enough to
know what it will be even more
fabulous as the months pass by
and stretch into years.
