Nine months’ work comes to
bloom tomorrow night when
Atlanta Lodge, B’nai B’rith pre
mieres its seasonal musical play,
“The Fruman Comedy.’’
The work, which has been in
reparation since February, will
e offered at 8:30 p.m. Saturday,
Sunday and Mopday (Nov. 21-22-
23) at the Community Playhouse,
near Peachtree and 14th St.
A cast of 50 has been rehears
ing nights since September, un
der producer-choreographer Hil-
degarde Bennett and dramatic
director Norman Shavin.
“The Fruman Comedy,” a
political satire set in 1948, was
conceived by Alvin Saul, Ted
Levitas, Norman Shavin and
Kieve Landesberg, with Shavin
and Levitas credited with the
dialogue. Saul wrote the lyrics
for the numerous musical num
bers and Landesberg, a graduate
in piano of the Julliard School
of Music, devised a completely
original score for the work.
Tickets for the production may
be obtained from Howard Aron-
in. A few are still available at
the Community Playhouse box
office.
Jerry Gilbert, Ann Lewis,
Julie Weiss, Ralph Sachs and
Leonard Meyers have the lead
roles, with secondary parts held
by Jerry Goldsmith, Pete Morris,
Dave Eisenberg, Jack Rousso,
Jim Kaufman, Jane Kaufman,
Jerry Berman, Martin (Bud)
Sharter, Marilyn Furchgott,
Herb Lewis and Bob and Vir
ginia Barnett.
Men’s and women’s singing and
dancing choruses supplement the
leads.
Test Self Object
In Diabetes Drive
Facilities for testing all mem
bers of Atlanta for diabetes have
been arranged and will be avail
able to all during Diabetes De
tection Week, November 15
through 21, Gerald H. Ghertner,
chairman of the Diabetes Detec
tion Drive in Atlanta has an
nounced.
Testing kits will be available
at all Drug Stores in the city,
at no cost. This simple test for
diabetes is painless and easy to
use, and can be taken in the
privacy of your own home.
Mr. Ghertner called on all
residents to be tested during the
Drive, which is sponsored locally
by the Lay Society Diabetes As
sociation of Atlanta in coopera
tion with the nationwide effort
of the American Diabetes Asso
ciation. The national goal is to
find the million undiagnosed
cases of diabetes.
The immediate concern of the
Drive is early detection, for dia
betes often exists without pro
ducing symptoms which appear
serious enough to warrant call
ing the doctor; prompt detection
and medical care are essential to
successful treatment, Mr. Ghert
ner explained.
Diabetes is dangerous only
when neglected, and the easiest
way to detect its presence is to
take this simple test.
Although all residents of all
ages should be tested, Mr. Ghert
ner urged individuals with these
symptoms to make special ef
fort to take the sample test; ex
cessive thirst, excessive urina
tion, loss of weight, intense itch
ing, slow healing of cuts or
bruises, excessive hunger,
changes in vision, easy tiring,
and pain in the extremities.

Louis Finkelstein, Seminary chancellor, is the third person in the
