general chairmanship of Mrs.
Jacob Levitt, executive vice
president of the Ahavath Achim
Sisterhood. Mrs. Leonard A.
Meyer, president, will bring
greetings to the group.
A widely known teacher and
lecturer, Mrs. Kripke is the au
thor of several books, including
“Rhymes to Pray” and “Let’s
Talk About Judaism.” She holds
degrees from Hunter College,
Columbia University and the
Seminary College of the Jewish
Theological Seminary. She has

dar, it might be wise to prepare
a few specials in advance for
storing in the freezer till almdst
time for baking and serving on
that festive occasion. For in
stance, we like to prepare some
pastry shells, all rolled out and
shaped, then stacked with wax
paper between and tucked into
the freezer compartment of our
refrigerator. When ready for
guests, we bake and fill, allow
ing an hour or so for the whole

DOUGH FOR PASTRY SHELLS
2 1 1 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
:l i cup vegetable shortening
5 to 6 tablespoons cold water
While the oven is heating to
425 deg. F. sift together flour
and salt into a mixing bowl. Cut
in shortening with knives or
wire blender and sprinkle with
the cold water, a tablespoon at
a time, mixing with a fork till
the dough forms a ball. Roll out
to 'sth inch thickness and cut
into 5 inch rounds or squares
and place each over an inverted
custard cup or individual salad
mold. Prick bottoms with a fork
before baking for 12 to 15 min
utes. Let cool before removing
from inverted cups. or molds.
Yields 12 pastry shells.
For storing in freezer, unbaked
squares or circles may also be
stacked with wax paper be
tween, then wrapped with alumi
num foil.
Suggested Fillings for Baked
Shells Luncheon Fillings:
Creamed Tuna or Salmon sea
soned to taste. Chicken Salad.
Mixed Dried Fruits Compote,
topped with sour cream.
Dessert Fillings:
Canned peach or pear halves,
maraschino garnish. Canned
drained sweet dark cherries,
syrup thickened, if desired.

will be held at Ahavath Achim
Synagogue on Friday, Nov. 20, at
8:15 pin. Rabbi Harry H. Ep
stein will conduct.
Also observing ORT Sabbath
on November 20 will be the
members of more than 200 other
Conservative. Orthodox, and Re
form synagogues and temples
throughout the country.
Mrs. Kripke will also appear
at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3,
at an open board meeting of
Beth El Sisterhood at the May-
fair Club.

Roll out dough into a rec
tangle, 10x8 inches. Brush light
ly with evaporated milk or
diluted jelly of your choice.
Sprinkle generously with chop
ped walnuts then with a mixture
of cinnamon and sugar. Roll up
from long end, jellyroll fashion,
and cut into %-inch slices. Place
cut side up on an aluminum
foil lined cookie sheet, 2 inches
apart each way. Flatten with
fingers. Bake 12 to 15 minutes.
May be frozen then re-heated.
Yields 20.
Order your Turkey early if
that’s what you plan to serve on
Thanksgiving Day. Remember to
allow 20 to 25 minutes per pound
for roasting. Decide in advance
on type of dressing for Turkey,
and don’t be afraid to add diced
