Nasser Lauds Jew
As Arab Hero
NEW YORK, (WUP)—A Jew,
the American ear specialist Dr
Samuel Rosen, has been hailed
by President Nasser and the
UAR Ministry of Health, as a
hero of the Arab world, accord
ing to a feature story appearing
in the June issue of The Arab
World, official publication of
The Arab Information Center
here in New York.
According to the article, “A
Voice from the Void," Dr. Rosen,
who recently returned from a
visit to the UAR, has helped
cure tens of thousands of Arabs
of otosclerosis, a partial 'deaf
ness, through a special opera
tion he himself has devised. The
UAR Ear, Nose and Throat So
ciety has presented him with a
gold medal in recognition of his
service to humanity.
"As a result of his humani
tarian efforts,” the articles
states, “more than 100,000 vic
tims of this affliction have
known the excitement of hear
ing, perhaps for the first time in
years. The /fmerican surgeon's
efforts to break the silence bar
rier,” the article continues, “first
took him to the United Arab Re
public in 1098. At the invitation
of the UAR Ministry of Health,
he spent two weeks lecturing,
consulting with Arab physicians,
and demonstrating the techni
ques of his revolutionary opera
tion.
“While Dr. Roaen was lectur
ing in the Arab world,” the
article adds, “membars of the
Arab Medical Association and
the UAR government praised his
work and his thorough, patient

their meeting in Cairo, President
Nasser canttdly told Dr. Rosen,
